We are seeking an experienced Microelectronics Equipment Technologist that develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of microelectronic semiconductor tools, instruments, systems, and processes\. May serve as a generalist technician and has responsibilities in more than one functional area, including electronics, instrumentation, mechanical, and laser optics\. Works in a laboratory setting monitoring experiments and making and recording observations in support of the development and testing of scientific theories\. Prepares information for scientific and engineering reports and publications\. Supports the development of novel diagnostics and their implementation\.

On any given day the microelectronics equipment Technologist may:

+ Plans and performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, or optical areas\.

+ Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems\.

+ Develops, evaluates and works from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions\.

+ Operates related equipment, conducts tests, and reports data in a prescribed format\.

+ Specifies and performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as needed; and prepares prescribed compounds and solutions\.

+ May perform duties in radiation environments or involving radiation\-producing equipment\.

+ Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications\.

+ Oversees equipment support contracts and oversees the work of vendor equipment support personnel\.

+ Applicant must have ability to maintain and repair semiconductor processing equipment in the area of metrology and inspectiion\.

+ Applicant must be able to communicate well, work independently with minimal guidance, and collaboratively as part of a team and interact constructively with others\.

+ Applicant must possess demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision\.

+ Awareness of engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities, including design and systems technology, within the metrology/inspection processing areas\.

+ Experience in the following systems: Ellipsometers, profilometers, microscopes, SEM, darkfield/brightfield defect inspection, four point probe, stress measurement systems, TXRF, EDS, height measurement and electromechanical systems\.

+ Practical understanding of electronic theory and principles\. \-\- Previous experience in a R&D micro fabrication environment\.

+ Training and certification in Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques\.

+ Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Software Programs such as FactoryWorks, MES and Xsite a plus\.

+ Applicants who have a current L or Q clearance desired\.

+ Familiarity with all safety requirements relevant to semiconductor equipment work \(e\.g\. lock out tag out, pressure and electrical safety, chemical safety\)\.

Department Description:

Sandia National Laboratories Microsystems and Engineering Sciences Applications \(MESA\) complex provides unique processing capability in semiconductor microfabrication\. The MESAFab Operations departments develop and maintain core semiconductor processing capabilities and capacity that enable our customers to build differentiating Microsystems products\. Two unique facilities are co\-located within the 65,000 square foot MESAFab complex including: \(1\) a 12,000 square foot Class 1 Silicon Fab for 6\-inch silicon wafer processing and \(2\) a 15,000 square foot Class 10 and Class 100 MicroFab for compound semiconductor material processing and silicon wafer post\-processing\. Key microfabrication processing areas include photolithography, reactive ion etch, wet etch/clean, oxidation and diffusion, thin films, CMP \(planarization\), ion implantation, metrology, deep reactive silicon ion etch, wafer bonding and thinning, electroplating, packaging, MEMS release, yield learning and statistical process control\.

The Silicon Fab has processing expertise in both CMOS and MEMS technologies\. Over 150 equipment sets are maintained, supported and operated 24 hours per day, 5 days a week \(3 shifts\)\. Both processing and maintenance expertise are staffed on all 3 shifts\. We offer unique prototyping capabilities\. We are capable of producing full flow production lots with quick turnaround time as well as performing flexible process development\. The MicroFab has expertise in compound semiconductor material processing\. All of the MicroFab equipment \(180 tools\) are maintained and supported by our in\-house maintenance and technical staff\. We are capable of producing highly customized, low\-volume production or prototyping devices and have flexible processing capabilities\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
