Microelectronic/Semiconductor Technologist (Early/Mid-Career)

We seek a Microelectronics/Semiconductor Technologist to be part of a large multidisciplinary team of engineers and technologists working in the microsystems integration department\. The organization performs research, development, and manufacture of various SNL\-fabricated microelectronic components such as application specific integrated circuits \(ASICs\), small scale compound semiconductor integrated circuits, and micro\-electromechanical systems \(MEMS\)\. The internal production processes include activities such as wire bonding, die placement and attach, wafer sawing, wafer washing, inspection, rework, lid sealing, and laser marking\. This work is done using industrial practices to avoid contamination and electrostatic discharge damage\. Some operations involve automated equipment while others are more manual in nature\.

Candidates applying on this requisition may be interviewed and/or hired into Dept\. 5218 or 5218\-1 at Sandia National Laboratories\.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

+ Working in close relationship with department engineers to perform a diverse set of duties that will require multidisciplinary thinking, teamwork, job flexibility, versatility, and continuous learning\.

+ Coordinating shipments with external vendors which includes preparation of purchase orders, kitting materials required for product assembly, inventory management, shipping and receipt inspections, and maintaining quality records\.

+ Performing quality reviews of vendor documentation, interacting with vendors to make corrections, and prepare records for product acceptance\.

+ Developing, optimizing, specifying processes or process steps required for operation of department equipment or execution of the departments mission\.

+ Inspecting components, subassemblies, and/or assembled microsystems to MIL\-STD and internal specifications\.

+ Operating lab assembly and test equipment\.

+ Working from documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, and plans that may require knowledge and practical understanding of electronic theory and principles\.

+ Performing a variety of basic machine and laboratory preventative maintenance duties\.

+ Traveling occasionally to our external vendors to monitor adherence to our requirement\.


+ High school diploma or equivalent plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

+ Experience in at least one of the following activities:

- Working on a manufacturing/production line, working with microelectronics, working in a measurement and test organization


+ Experience working in electronics manufacturing\.

+ Experience developing, optimizing, or documenting machine recipes and operating processes\.

+ Proficiency with electronic part/lot tracking or traveler systems\.

+ Experience setting up computer controlled equipment or components\.

+ Experience using an inventory control system\.

+ Ability to prepare procedures for tool operation\.

+ Experience working with external customers\.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office\.

Department Description:

The Microsystems Integration Department at Sandia National Laboratories is responsible for microelectronics packaging activities ranging from Advanced Packaging R&D for microelectronics, MEMS, and RFICs though high\-rigor production packaging delivery for SNL mission applications\. The department is part of the Heterogeneous Integration and RF Microsystems Group within the Microsystems Science and Technology Center at SNL\. The departments projects are a diversified set of activities that include focused development for most of SNLs Mission Areas and general research and development for future applications\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
