This is a limited term assignment\. These assignments are typically for up to a one\-year period, with the option to extend for up to six additional years at the manager's discretion\.

The California Site Machine Shop specializes in the fabrication of complex parts and assemblies\. The parts are often made in multiple fabrication steps and are themselves materially, and geometrically complex\. Prior to release, these parts/assemblies must be mechanically inspected to verify geometric features meet the intent of the design definition drawings\. Part inspections are generally carried out on a coordinate measurement machine \(CMM\), with the inspection being driven by a geometric model in Pro/E format\. Consequently, the inspector must reconcile differences between design definition drawings and the inspection model\. The inspector will work closely with machinists, engineers and designers\. The successful candidate will be a member of a cutting edge team which seeks to seamlessly integrate geometric models into the design to fabrication process\.

Required:

Requires high school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience\.

Desired:

1\. A successful candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in the usage of PC\-DMIS software\.

2\. Possess a sound basic understanding of models based machining and manufacturing processes\.

3\. Advanced knowledge and experience specific to model\-based inspection techniques\.

4\. A solid background and understanding in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance \(GD&T\) as per ASME Y14\.5\.

Department Description:

This department is in place for the research and development of prototype machined hardware components made on industry standard milling machines, lathes, wire EDM machines, plunge EDM machines, grinders, buffers, saws, routers, and bead blaster\. Hardware is typically made from a variety of industry standard inert metals, polymers, and composites materials\. In rare cases hazardous materials will be handled with the guidance from industrial hygiene and waste management with controls in place\.
