The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas seeks applicants for a tenured faculty position with a research emphasis in Solar Energy, Renewable Energy and/or Energy Systems who will serve as the Director of the Center for Energy Research (CER). The ideal candidate will be hired as a Full Professor. Candidates at the Associate Professor level with exceptional research and leadership qualifications will also be considered. The candidate is expected to lead the Center for Energy Research activities which include: securing extramural funding, promoting interdisciplinary research initiatives, mentoring junior faculty, encouraging high quality research, providing teaching excellence in energy related areas, as well as the recruitment of future students, faculty, and staff

The Mechanical Engineering department has 19 faculty, 619 undergraduate students and 68 graduate students. The ME department had $3.8 million in research expenditures last year and received $6.4 million in new awards. Both CER ( and the ME department have excellent research facilities including laboratory space in the Science and Engineering Building ( CER has been a leading research center on campus and is expected to help UNLV attain Top Tier status as part of our Strategic Planning Initiative


The position requires a Ph.D. degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Candidates must have a significant record of transformative funded research and scholarly publications. Candidates must also have experience leading large multi-investigator research projects


Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding
