Essential Functions:
  • Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies. This includes but is not limited to: requirements analysis, creating design that meets requirements, implementing design in 3D model, peer reviews, working with suppliers to create parts, inspection/verification, documenting design and release.
  • Work with cross functional team (electrical and firmware) to create electro-mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Communicate to non-engineering functions mechanical architecture and functionality.
  • Support production tester development to ensure product tested meets specification before leaving manufacturing.
  • Ensure design is properly documented following standard policies.
  • Lead small engineering projects and coordinate activities from multiple functions (marketing, electrical, software, mechanical, production, service, and quality) to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and perform test procedures with necessary fixtures to ensure that products are performing according to specifications.
  • Use standard mechanical tools and operate all types of mechanical test equipment.
  • Oversee design activities for possible enhancements and engage in trouble shooting activities, root cause analysis on existing products.
  • Actively participate in and maintain strict compliance to all UTC Policies and EHS requirements.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical design and development
  • Must possess good hands on mechanical ability for testing and design verification
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (e.g. Injection molding, die cast, extrusion, deep draw, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical drawings and documentation
  • Demonstrated experience with ProE or similar 3D modeling package
  • Knowledge of GD&T and statistical manufacturing control methods
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other mechanical engineers

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with electromechanical packaging, locks and latch design
  • Knowledge of Lock, Hospitality, and Access control Industries and Relevant Industry Associations.
  • Green Belt Certified/Trained and demonstrate Six Sigma competencies.
  • Experience working with non-US based teams and suppliers. Sensitivity to cultural biases and understanding the communication practices needed to create successful partnerships in an open and supportive environment.
