Project Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer will work as a member of the technical team performing research, development and testing in a full-scale bearing test facility.  Candidates must be able to work with cross-functional groups (development, manufacturing and customers (government and industry)) to develop, test and transition products or technologies to practical fleet applications and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Will be expected to work as part of a development team and see projects through initial concept/set-up, test and evaluation and potential demonstration in a fast-past environment
  • Potential for the right candidate to become a project leader on specific development projects
  • Successful candidate must be comfortable in handling multiple projects simultaneously, and will be responsible for maintaining a large mechanical systems test facility that specializes in the analysis of new state-of-the-art marine systems 

Type of Position: Full-Time

Travel: 10%

Required Skills and Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research focused environment
  • Fluency in the latest 3-D CAD and FEA modeling techniques and software
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications
  • Proficiency with mechanical and electrical systems including sensors and data collection on large scale equipment
  • Skill and experience in multiple areas, including Hydraulics, Mechanisms, Control Systems, Structures, and Materials
  • Experience in specifications of mechanical systems and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with a wide variety of technical and non-technical staff
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

 Desired Skills and Qualifications:       


  • Experience/familiarity in large scale bearing testing, or general marine propulsion system testing
  • Experience with basic electronics, instrumentation, and data collection
  • Proficient Solidworks ABAQUS, COMSOL, Matlab, Labview, or other similar software packages
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
