We are seeking an early/mid\-career Mechanical Engineer to conduct research and development toward MEMS products\.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



+ Designing, analyzing, packaging, and/or characterizing MEMS devices\.

+ Tasking and assisting the activities of technologists\.

+ Learning the technical material required for the job\.

+ Interacting with technologists and other engineers to solve technical problems\.

+ Reporting technical progress and issues\.



Required:



+ Bachelor's and Master's in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or in science, or equivalent \(Bachelor's in STEM \+ 4 years of experience\)\.



Desired:



+ Experience with MEMS design, layout, analysis, laboratory characterization, or fabrication\.

+ Working in an R&D environment, such as, designing and characterizing research prototypes\.

+ Laboratory skills\.

+ General mechanical or electrical design and drafting\.

+ Finite element analysis\.

+ Computer programming, especially with C\+\+, Matlab, Labview\.

+ Computer aided design, e\.g\., SolidWorks, AutoCAD\.

+ Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications\.



+ Technical background and eagerness to learn new tools/techniques\.

+ Adaptability to changing tasks and projects as needed\.

+ Problem\-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions\.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills\.

+ Eagerness to work in a multi\-disciplinary team environment\.

+ The addition of diversity to the department through background, experience, interests, etc\.



Department Description:



You will be part of the MEMS Technology Department \(http://mems\.sandia\.gov/\)\. We conduct research and development for advanced micro\-electromechanical systems that push the technology envelope for national security applications\.



Our broad R&D portfolio includes traditional MEMS sensors and actuators \(e\.g\., inertial sensors and switches\), piezoelectric devices \(e\.g\., ultrasonic transducers\), RF/acoustic devices \(e\.g\., RF filters\), opto/acoustic devices \(e\.g\., optical modulators\), magnetic and photovoltaic devices, and emerging technologies\. We also develop and maintain a comprehensive set of MEMS fabrication processes in Sandia's MESA Silicon and Micro Fabs, where we build MEMS with traditional bulk and surface micromachining, piezoelectric films, damascene and electrodeposited metals, through substrate vias, wafer bonding, and other semiconductor fab processes\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance to start\.



Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted L\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.
