This position offers a challenging opportunity to design cutting edge low SWAP-C vision systems. Working with a multi-disciplinary technical design team, the successful applicant will drive the design, implementation and testing of military and commercial-based systems. The selected individual must accept ownership of the products design and development while concurrently satisfying the needs and concerns of all stake holders.

Primary Responsibilities

Mechanical design, including generation of drawings, specifications and Bill of Material (BOM) reports.

Develop and articulate concepts to meet technical requirements

Interfacing with suppliers, customers and members of the UTAS technical design team.

Work with technical staff to design and integrate circuit card assembles into ruggedized assemblies and products. Incorporating electronics into the design to include satisfying the structural and thermal requirements while addressing interconnect and cable routing.

Test support: designing test fixtures, test equipment, including writing test plans and procedures.

Support formal design reviews and presentations to customer and engineering team members

Compliance with budget and schedule to meet demanding timelines.


3-5 years of experience in the design, test and fabrication of mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems

Basic experience in part and assembly drawing creation using ASME Y14.5M-1994 drafting and tolerancing standards

Experience with material selection and general machining techniques

Working knowledge of 3D modeling methods and experience utilizing CAD design software. Direct experience using PTC Creo 2.0 (Pro/Engineer) preferred

Proficiency using data management software such as Windchill is a plus

Good written and verbal communication skills are required with ability to present in front of small groups

Ability to work in a dynamic environment, with frequent customer and stake holder interaction


Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or AA/AS degree with 5+ years experience
