Business Unit

The Corporate Technology Group develops key technology used in KLA-Tencor’s inspection and metrology systems. We research, analyze and prototype key technologies such as sensors, lasers and optics. When the technology is proven to meet requirements, we work with KLA-Tencor product divisions and key suppliers to implement the technology into KLA-Tencor’s products.




  • Design opto-mechanical parts, modules and subsystems to support the design of the next generation DUV lasers for inspection tools.
  • Responsible for the complete design process, including requirements specification, feasibility studies, cost, conducting various analysis, such as fluid, thermal, vibrational, and FEA modeling, conceptual and detailed design using Pro/E, detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handoff to product divisions and manufacturing. 
  • These tasks will require working with other research scientists and engineering groups such as Optics engineers, Systems engineers and Manufacturing to ensure flawless integration and test at the subsystem and system level. 
  • Works closely with suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved.
  • Has strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills




Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in several of these areas is desirable: opto-mechanical systems, optics, optics alignment, design of semiconductor equipment or similar instruments, motion controls, vacuum chambers, lasers, data acquisition systems such as Labview, measurement instrumentation.
  • Should have experience in thermal, structural analysis and fluid flow modeling (Pro/Mechanica, ANSYS, CFD skill strongly preferred).
  • Desirable to have experience in following areas: Design of semiconductor equipment or similar instruments, precision mechanisms (mechatronics), opto-mechanics, optics alignment, vibration, heat transfer, flow modeling and test instrumentation.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Doctorate (Academic) with at least 2 years of experience Or
  • Master's Level Degree with at least 4 years of experience. Or
  • Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, machine elements, materials, fabrication methods.
  • Must be proficient with solid CAD, Pro E skill strongly preferred
