The manager of Mission Computing Services \(dept\. 9322\) will be customer\-oriented, innovative, and entrepreneurial with a passion for providing high\-quality, agile, and cost effective IT solutions to mission execution organizations and projects\. Services provided by the department include: \(1\) IT support tailored to mission organizations specific needs, \(2\) Linux, Windows, and Mac system administration, \(3\) IT solutions architecture and design, and \(4\) Cyber Security Representatives & Cyber Security implementations\. Mission Computing Services also partners with other corporate IT providers in the delivery of its services and is engaged in technology development for the Sandia Classified network \(SCN\), UNIX/Linux, and thin/virtual computing\.

The manager also:

+ Oversees and manages members of the workforce within the department\.

+ Coordinates employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions\.

+ Ensures that customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements\.

+ Balances the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs\.

+ Is responsible for strategic direction and tactical accomplishments of the department as well as program development\.

+ Typically focuses on internal information systems service delivery, but may also have an external client focus\.

+ Oversees work based on strategic architectures encompassing a diverse set of information systems domains such as hardware, software, data management, networking, systems security, and telecommunications\.

+ Oversees the analysis of Sandia National Laboratories\-wide requirements or external customer requirements and the work that incorporates these requirements into commercial\-off\-the\-shelf, open source, or internally developed information systems solutions\.


99. Minimum of a Bachelors in MIS, Computer Science or a related field

99. Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

99. Experience with ITIL and/or ISO concepts and implementations

99. Experience in delivering IT support to mission customers

99. Experience with contract/supplier management


99. Experience managing an IT service organization

99. Experience managing large complex budgets

99. Project Management \(PMI\) certification

99. IT Service Management certification, such as ITIL certification

99. Knowledge of diverse missions at Sandia

Department Description:

Mission Computing Services \(MCS\) provides tailored IT services primarily to mission execution organizations, but also to other organizations \(including corporate IT\) in need of specialized IT services\. The organization's goal is to deliver an exceptional customer experience with computing products and services that enable mission productivity and success\. To accomplish this, a team of closely integrated Service Managers within the department oversees a wide\-range of projects and services\. Technical work is performed by >140 MOWs consisting primarily of contract personnel, but also Sandia personnel when appropriate\. MCS also manages the corporate contract \(currently with SAIC\) that provides these resources and also provides personnel to other organizations in need of a variety of IT skillsets\. Technical work consists primarily of System Administration, Solutions Architecture, Cyber Security \(CSRs\), Classified Operations, and Centralized IT Operations\. MCS collaborates heavily with the Enterprise IT organizations within 10700 and the Cyber Security and Mission Support organizations within Center 9300\.

The department resides within 9320, which provides a broad range of computing resources and services to Sandias mission organizations\. These include: High\-Performance Computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Emulytics platforms and support; Dev Ops Environments; Advanced HPC test\-beds, Common Engineering Environment; Mission Cloud Services; Technical User Support; Scientific Visualization; Remote Scientific Computing; Technical Data Storage; Long\-term Data Storage\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
