Description: Description About the Position:
The position of Manager of Accounting reports to the Vice President, Administration and Finance and is responsible for all matters relating to financial and cost accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, state and federal tax compliance, state and federal corporate compliance, state, federal and local operating authority compliance (including licensing and permits in approximately 20 states), daily cash management and state corporate report filing. This position is also responsible for completing special tasks and/or projects as assigned by upper Management and/or the other members of the executive team and collaborating with said executives to determine and set in motion the best business decisions for the Company.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Key Accountabilities: Daily Cash Management Prepares bank reconciliations for four bank accounts Prepares month end financial closing reports in a timely fashion; these reports include the following: diesel fuel inventory, mileage reports for tractor depreciation expense, trailer lease payments and commodity statistic reports Maintains invoice register in Microsoft excel Prepares and maintains all required state corporate quarterly and annual report filings Assists, Vice President, Administration and finance when necessary Sends out all W-9s to vendors Gather all of the month’s financial transactions prepare and approve all monthly financial journal entries and post them to the general ledger Prepare all reports and schedules required to report in the month’s financial results to Corporate Headquarters and e-mail them accordingly Prepare and distribute all in-house monthly financial statements Provide all required financial information to the Corporate Headquarters tax department and be prepared to answer any questions by the Corporation’s internal and external auditors, in order to ensure all state and federal corporate tax compliance Prepare all financial budgets, input them into the accounting system and report them to Corporate headquarters Assure compliance with all state and federal regulatory agencies by ensuring that all required returns and filings are made in a timely fashion (these filings are reviewed, approved and signed by the Vice President, Administration and Finance) Assure Federal, State and Local operating authority is maintained in approximately 20 states by filing required licensing and permit applications on a timely basis Maintain the fixed asset register File the monthly sales and use tax returns with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue Complete any special projects requested by upper management Maintain and store corporate records in adherence to the Company’s record retention policy
Administer corporate and employee credit accounts

Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Microsoft Business Solutions – Great Plains 10.0 to run monthly detail general ledger account reports for bank reconciliations and depreciation expense reconciliations to oversee the accounts payable process to post all monthly financial journal entries to the general ledger to research accounts payable sub-ledger and general ledger inquiries to maintain financial budget records Microsoft Excel Proficiency to input tractor mileage into the fixed asset listing to compose monthly payroll tax journal entries to prepare bank reconciliations to maintain daily cash spread sheets to prepare required spreadsheets and schedules necessary to track financial transactions for use in computing the monthly journal entries to format financial statements which are downloaded to Excel from FRx prior to being sent to Corporate Headquarters via Outlook and being printed for in-house distribution to prepare the annual tax package, which will be sent via Outlook to the Corporate Tax Department in order for them to prepare the annual combined federal tax return to maintain the fixed asset sub-ledger for financial budget preparation to prepare the portable pipeline billing to prepare and complete special inquiries and projects FRx to prepare financial statements and general ledger reports used to report monthly financial results and to supply tax information to prepare in-house financial statements to complete special financial projects and inquiries Microsoft Outlook to report monthly financial results into Corporate Headquarters to send the tax package to the Corporate Tax Department to send audit schedules and written corporate policies to Corporate Headquarters upon request for in-house communication and document mailing Internet Explorer to file the monthly sales and use tax return with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for daily cash management for state and local corporate filings for state and local operating authority filings to research special inquires and projects Microsoft Word to prepare and complete special inquiries and projects to prepare all miscellaneous business letters and communications Transyst to print monthly sales and cash receipts reports to print invoice registers and commodity statistic reports on a monthly basis
Qualifications Required: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent 10 years management and financial, budget and cost accounting experience Excellent organizational, communicative, interpersonal and management skills Qualifications Preferred: Master's Degree in Accounting or equivalent Knowledge of Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Dynamics, FRx Reporting and Microsoft Office software Familiarity with the trucking and utility industries National Grid is an equal opportunity employer that value s a broad diversity of talent, knowledge, experience and expertise.
