This position is a staff member in the Lean and Continuous Improvement Department\. Your primary role will be leading continuous improvement efforts across the lab utilizing lean thinking, lean six sigma techniques and other problem\-solving methods\. In addition, you will be engaged in the development and deployment of the Laboratory Operating System \[LOS\] across Sandia\. Day to day work will include developing materials and content for successful LOS deployment, partnering with groups across SNL to identify improvements to operational efficiency and effectiveness, and then leading activity to realize those improvements as demonstrated by measurable results\.

Primary Job Duties:

You will be required to identify areas that could be made more operationally efficient across Sandia\. Once identified, you will lead and/or be actively involved improving the work\. Key activities will include:

+ Selecting methods and techniques to improve the work, leveraging lean, lean six sigma and learning organization methods and principles\.

+ Defining the problem, ideal state, target state and experiments/actions to close gaps\.

+ Building strong agreement with the team involved in the improvement process on both the what and how to improve\.

+ Identifying and resolving risks and hurdles that prevent closure to an improved process\.

Success in this role will be measured on the tangible results achieved to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of SNL\. The activity to achieve those results \(events, go\-and\-see, experiments, etc\.\) are an important means to that end\. Consequently, the staff member that can effectively implement a wide set of methods and processes that enable tangible results will thrive in this role\.

Additional duties will include:

+ Participating actively in the Scrum process including creating user stories and reporting daily on progress\. The Business excellence team uses Scrum for all work activity\.

+ Creating content and then delivering the content \(papers, bright spots, training, educational and such\) as required to support the development and deployment of LOS\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities we will be looking for:

+ Demonstrated knowledge and use of lean thinking including the use of an A3 for problem resolution and project planning that lead to measurable results for the organization\.

+ Strong writing, communication, facilitation and organizational skills to both a technical and non\-technical community\.

+ Proficiency in facilitating work of multiple people and groups to build strong agreement on the problem statement and actions to resolve\.

+ Demonstrated teaming skills including the ability to work effectively with other organizations, functions, customers and suppliers\.

+ Strong evidence of structured processes to complete your work and work with others, including keeping stakeholders apprised of progress\.

+ Proficiency in systems thinking including identify and understanding the inter\-relationships between people, processes and behavior\.

+ Proactively communicate status on action items assigned, team escalations and flow downs, challenges, and successes\.


+ Requires bachelors or Masters degree in a STEM field \(Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Mechanical, etc\), plus five years of relevant experience \(demonstrating the knowledge, skills and abilities we are looking for\)\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q clearance\.


+ Knowledge of lean six sigma, lean and lead product development techniques\.

+ Knowledge of learning organizational concepts \(mental models, systems thinking, shared vision, team learning, personal mastery\)\.

The Business Excellence Center has the primary mission of establishing, deploying and maintaining the Sandia Laboratory Operating System \(LOS\)\. This is a multi\-year journey to evolve the laboratory culture to a learning organization\.

The Lean and Continuous Improvement Department is in the Business Excellence Center/ LOS Group\. It is focused on creating a lean culture that encourages and equips all employees to engage in structured problem solving and continuous improvement efforts in the work they do\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
