We are looking for an experienced networker that will serve in multiple technical networking areas such as Routing/Switching, Firewalls, SONET/ OTN, and Passive Optical Networking\.

This individual will be experienced in managing customer relationships and expectations by translating customer needs to deliver appropriate technical solutions\. In order to do this, the individual must demonstrate technical proficiency with networking technologies, such as WAN, LAN, and firewall technologies, in order to design, implement, operate, maintain, and successfully identify and resolve issues within our enterprise network services\.


+ Requires high school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

+ Hands\-on experience implementing, and managing enterprise network infrastructures to include as follows:

- LAN/WAN equipment, such as routers, switches, load balancers and protocol analyzers

- Traffic flow analysis, network management, network topology discovery & design, security, performance and fault tolerant architecture

- Network communication protocols, such as TCP/IP, HTTPS, IPSec, BGP, SNMP, and other related protocols

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE security clearance


+ Working knowledge of Packet Analyzers \(Wireshark/TCPdump, etc\.\)

+ Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, design integrations, and operate leading technology equipment

+ Demonstrated ability to work well with department team members, management, and both internal and external customers, to identify and resolve network\-centric issues

+ Demonstrated ability to mentor internal and external staff as needed

+ Knowledgeable of Ethernet, spanning tree technologies

+ Knowledgeable of switching and routing technologies

+ Strong interpersonal skills

+ Demonstrated ability to work as part of a larger team

+ Able to take direction from senior staff

Department Description:

Network Design and Operations is responsible for providing secure, consistent, and highly available network infrastructures to ensure Sandias core corporate and mission IT needs\. We manage all of the Sandia production data networks, as well as customer\-focused stand\-alone LANs and enclaves\. We collaborate and integrate with a variety of organizations including the Corporate Computing Help Desk, the Customer Service Units, Facilities Management & Operations, Cyber Security Services & Technologies, Service Management & Monitoring, Advanced Information and Network Systems Engineering, and the Information Solutions Center\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
