The position entails working in and supporting operations in a Sandia Technical Area which consists of two research reactors, the Annular Core Research Reactor and the Critical Experiments reactor, an Auxiliary Hot Cell Facility for waste processing, a Gamma Irradiation Facility, and a Radiation Metrology Laboratory.

Student internship to assist in various technical assignments related to the operations, maintenance, and configuration management of nuclear facilities and associated experimental activities. Example assignments include:

+ Analytical analysis in support of irradiation effects and nuclear core performance
+ Research and Development support in reactor operations, radiation effects experiments, radiation dosimetry, and critical assembly technical design
+ Research and Development support for configuration management of key nuclear safety systems and experimental equipment utilized in reactor experiments, reactor operations, engineering and maintenance

Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Engineering fundamentals, engineering analysis and design, principles of radiation/chemistry, and a strong engineering, math, and physics background.
+ Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or related field

Desired:

+ Research and Development experience with experimental planning in radiation or nuclear environment
+ Demonstrated experience in nuclear modeling codes
+ Demonstrated attributes of leadership skills



The Science of Extreme Environments Research & Innovation (SEERI) Program philosophy is to foster the search for future researchers, engineers, and operators in radiation effects, pulsed power, and high energy density sciences. Students are offered hands on flexible, challenging, interesting, and cutting edge research opportunities while being mentored by Sandia National Laboratories scientists and engineers. These hands on experiences are supplemented with technical seminars and facility tours which expose students to the broad range of engineering and scientific disciplines represented at Sandia. Student Interns are provided the opportunity and encouraged to present their work and accomplishments to their peers and the Sandia scientific community every August. In some cases students are asked to present their work at professional conferences.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
