We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Use the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems
+ Develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems
+ Create and apply scientific theories, laws and engineering methods
+ Team with others to support Sandia's mission by adding value, improving operations, offering innovative solutions and appropriately managing risk for the corporation
+ Deliver results in line with project milestones based on education background and status
+ Pair with R&D staff members and teams working on LDRD or mission-focused projects across the Laboratories

Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Experience with relevant software development languages (Java, C/C++, Python, C#.NET, Meteor, etc)
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related science, engineering, or math field

Desired:

+ Experience with big-data, analytics or data mining
+ Experience in developing software for distributed real-time processing of sensor data
+ Experience in data visualization or image processing
+ Experience with Container Technologies (e.g. Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, etc)
+ Relevant experience in scientific/engineering data processing
+ Experience in real-time data processing
+ Experience in developing software for Cloud Platforms (e.g. AWS, OpenStack)
+ Experience with Agile development methodology (SaFE/Scrum)



The R&D Systems Architecture department (9514) within the Science and Engineering Information Systems (SEIS) group architects and develops software applications and solutions for mission programs across Sandia and across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE). These software solutions enable many mission-critical activities in all phases of a customer's product lifecycle. Within division 9000 we work closely with corporate IT services and infrastructure teams to cost effectively meet our customer needs. In addition, we interact frequently with application end users, mission customers and key stakeholders throughout Sandia and the NSE. We are a cross-discipline team of architects, technical leads and software engineers that architect, design, develop and maintain innovative software solutions for its customers.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
