We are seeking an Intern Year Round - Technical High School Student

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support the Surety Engineers with development, qualification, manufacturing, test, and demonstration planning
+ Learn and help Surety Engineers apply integrated technical judgment using engineering, analysis and prevention based methods
+ Help with the development requirements traceability reports or other essential engineering authorizations
+ Learn about NNSA Quality Requirements and help the Surety Engineers with the planning of technical reviews

Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U.S. citizenship

Desired:

+ Proficient using Microsoft Program Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
+ Ability to support technical projects involving multiple internal and external engineering organizations
+ Teaming skills compatible with large and diverse technical teams
+ Excellent communication skills, personal initiative, responsiveness, and attention to detail



Organization 09420 provides technical R&D quality engineering expertise to Product Realization Teams (PRTs) in support of product design, development, qualification, product pre-acceptance and some on-going production activity at the system, software, subsystem and component level. Using preventative tools, we assist developers and producers of NW systems during the design, development, and qualification of their hardware, and test equipment so as to minimize errors and rework; thus, generating cost and schedule savings by catching defects and their sources early. In addition, we assist teams in ensuring the appropriate evidence is present and that their processes meet design requirements in a timely, predictable, sustainable, and cost effective way. We develop and deliver training to ensure consistent and persistent technical competence.

Security Clearance:


This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.

If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE-granted security clearance, a pre-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation.
