Intern - Engineering Data R&D Undergrad Summer

We are seeking a summer intern with a focus in computer science and/or data sciences to join an interdisciplinary team of researchers to upgrade, modify and maintain an engineering database on glass and glass\-ceramic sealing technologies\. The successful intern is encouraged to demonstrate technical, programmatic, and operational initiatives for impact to Sandia programs, as well as present work to the technical staff and management\.


On any given day, you may be called on to

+ Take over an existing database

+ Modify the frame work for an existing database

+ Update the technical documents for an existing database

+ Implement capability for future expansion of an existing database


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program

+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Computer programming experience

+ Proficiency in data entry and data management

Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\.


+ Good oral and written communication skills

+ Current senior undergraduate student studying computer science

+ Experience in design of databases for continuous expansion

+ Experience in design of collaborative web sites

Department Description:

The Materials Mechanics and Tribology Department provides solutions to problems involving mechanical properties of materials\. The Departments work ranges from cutting\-edge science to quick diagnostics and design for high\-consequence hardware\.The department has world\-class expertise in characterizing mechanical properties such as elasticity, plasticity, fracture, friction, wear, lubrication and electrical contacts\. The department supports mainly Nuclear Weapons program customers, but also customers in other areas including satellites, defense systems, energy, and other programs\. Currently the departments Glass\-to\-Metal Seals Laboratory has high work load in materials structures, properties, variability, performance and reliability\. Staff and technologists are highly engaged in providing collaborative, innovative materials science and systems\-based engineering solutions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
