This undergraduate intern position will work under the direction of regular staff for the support of a multidisciplinary team of design engineers, production engineers, process engineers, and software engineers, in the Neutron Generator Enterprise. Position will be focused on data analytics for a variety of use cases, including analysis of weapon manufacturing process equipment, industrial control networks, and related data discovery and problem solving. The intern will participate in work teams for contribution towards implementation of advanced connections, data discovery, data acquisition, data visualization, and applied analyses.

Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Desired:

+ Preference will be given to Junior year students
+ Familiarity with Commercial software tools for Data Analysis and Visualization (examples include: Tableau, Spotfire, Alteryx, ThoughtSpot, QlikView, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Power Bi, PowerPivot)
+ Familiarity with programming (such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.)
+ Familiarity with statistical analysis languages and software packages (such as SAS, SPSS, R, etc.)
+ Familiarity with discrete manufacturing processes and methods
+ Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner
+ Demonstrated ability in dealing with challenging problems and implementing creative solutions
+ Strong technical writing and user communication skills



About our team: The Weapon Product Support Center (2500) is responsible for the design and production of power sources, energetic devices, and neutron generators. These technology areas provide products and services to the Nuclear Weapons and other Strategic Management Units (SMUs). Our work ranges the entire lifecycle from basic science, design, development, production, testing, fielding, and retirement. We partner with the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex, other government agencies, and private industry to support product realization of critical weapon assets in service to the nation.

The Cyber Engineering & Technology Department (2577) is responsible to provide cyber technology products, services and security for Center 2500, which are "mission specific" and complementary with existing corporate infrastructure. 2577 has embedded technical resources who have deep knowledge and experience with Neutron Generator Enterprise (NGE) and Energetic Components (EC) products, processes, and people.

Security Clearance:


This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.
