We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Grad

This position is looking for a graduate student that has a strong computer science background to help with the development of a risk management code for hydrogen alternative fuels. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Take an existing code and document it.
+ Evaluate the efficiency of the code and propose/implement changes to the code.
+ Where necessary, develop newer modules to the code.

Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Additional qualifications:

+ Completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or other relevant science, engineering or mathematic program
+ Extensive experience with programming in Python and/or C#
+ Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
+ Demonstrated experience in the software lifecycle
+ Demonstrated experience programming on Windows platforms

Desired:

+ Experience in Matlab and .NET
+ Experience with software development on a macOS platform
+ Experience with risk analysis methods
+ Demonstrated documenting work in technical documents
+ Ability to learn additional programming languages



The Risk and Reliability Analysis Department conducts probabilistic risk assessments (PRA) and analyses, human reliability analysis and fire risk analysis research. The focus of the department's efforts is on operational risk analysis of high-consequence engineered systems including civilian nuclear power reactors and transportation systems. The Department's client base includes the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, and other federal and non-federal entities.

Security Clearance:


This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.
