We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- R&D Grad

Student will perform a variety of duties in support of technical activities in areas such as instrumentation, mechanics, mechanical design, 3D printing, computer applications, and engineering data collection\. The intern will also engage in various technical activities that support direct digital printing materials, simulation of designs and processes and process sciences\.


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and current enrollment in an engineering program

+ Knowledge of direct digital printing processes, solid modeling, mechanical design and printed materials characterization

+ Minimum six months relevant laboratory experience in a technical area


+ Advanced coursework in mechanical engineering and/or mathematics

+ Expertise in print lab instrumentation

+ Experience using PTC Creo 3\.0 software and PowerPoint animations

Department Description:

Dept 1815\-1 is the Operations team of the Ceramic Materials Department \(1815\) that synthesizes, characterizes and improves the physical, optical and electronic properties and reliability of inorganic \(ceramic and glass\) materials and components\. A growing focus is underway in the area of bio\-nano materials for biosensors and drug delivery\. These materials exploit our broad experience in developing materials with tailored nanostructures that are often prepared using self\-assembly of biological\-inorganic composite materials\.An underlying theme of our work is the quest to understand the physical phenomena responsible for the observed effect\. We pursue partnerships with other Sandia organizations, universities, and industry to leverage our research investments, establish collaborations with experts in these fields and serve as Sandia's 'gateway' to these technologies\. Our work supports DOE Defense programs, other DOE research programs, work for other federal agencies, and industry\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
