We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- Technical High School



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Assist with installation and troubleshooting of standard computer software

+ Assist technologists with maintenance of desktop computers, workstations, various kinds of printers, and ancillary equipment

+ Assist with ordering supplies for computers, network printers and related parts/accessories

+ Help maintain the NWIS \(DiGs\) database for Carlsbad personnel



Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:



+ Attending a local high school

+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ Minimum 16 years of age

+ U\.S\. citizenship



A job placement assessment \(JPA\) will be required as part of the screening for this position\. This JPA will evaluate your ability to meet the physical requirements of this job\.



Desired:



+ Aptitude in learning quickly about non\-standard software

+ experience in dealing with hardware problems and setting up desktop computers

+ Organizational skills and people skills



Department Description:



The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant \(WIPP\) is the world's only licensed and operating deep geologic repository for the disposal of transuranic nuclear waste\. WIPP is operated by Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC, under contract to the Department of Energy's Carlsbad Field Office \(CBFO\)\. Sandia provides scientific advice to CBFO in many areas, including modifications to the repository's operating permits, periodic recertification of the repository, and on\-going monitoring of repository performance against regulatory requirements\. The Defense Waste Management Programs Group \(6930\) provides the scientific and other resources needed to advise the DOE on issues that may pertain to continued and uninterrupted certification and permitting of WIPP\.

Security Clearance:



This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.



Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.



If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE\-granted security clearance, a pre\-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation\. Applicants for DOE\-granted security clearances must be U\.S\. citizens and be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate DOE security clearance as required for the position\.
