We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- R&D Undergrad



Model Based Systems Engineering \(MBSE\) has become a critical focus for US Navy \(USN\) nuclear and conventional weapon programs, and for the associated interfaces within their Strategic Weapon System \(SWS\) enterprise\. In addition, MBSE is also a key enabling discipline on NNSA\-funded programs\. The Advanced and Exploratory Systems Department \(NM\) is expanding its core team of MBSE modelers to support existing and future programs for these customers\. The MBSE team develops advanced approaches within the field, including development of the requirements, functional, physical, V&V, and environmental architectures for high\-risk, high\-consequence weapon systems\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Support the development and management of SysML models for system, subsystem, and component levels and for associated interfaces

+ Support the coordination of diverse teams across Sandia throughout the development of SysML models

+ Data or schema import/export, development and preparation of reports \(including scripts\), traceability analyses

+ Maintenance of data integrity in databases containing national security critical information



The successful candidate\(s\) will gain experience in some of the following: model\-based approaches to systems engineering, including requirements engineering, functional architecture development, physical architecture development, and verification & validation activities; model\-based systems engineering tools; and SysML object\-oriented programming language\.



Required:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:



+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program

+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0

+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+ U\.S\. citizenship



Additional Requirements:



+ Active Department of Energy \(DOE\) or Department of Defense \(DOD\) clearance \(or one granted within last two years\)



Desired:



+ Systems Engineering undergraduate coursework and demonstration of skills

+ Understanding of relational databases, and Object Oriented and general programming languages

+ Familiarity with and a desire to increase expertise in SysML and the use of associated MBSE tools such as GENESYS, MagicDraw, Rhapsody, EA, etc\.

+ Familiarity with and/or a desire to learn the use of modern report generation software, including the use of custom queries/scripts, to generate project reports and data exports

+ Familiarity with the use of DOORS to document and trace requirements



In addition:



+ Familiarity and a desire to increase competency in the development of use case, functional, and architectural SysML models

+ Familiarity with requirements engineering concepts, including, elicitation, analysis, specification, and management

+ Flexibility with working styles, including working alone with detailed information and actively collaborating with technical staff

+ Exhibit a strong work ethic

+ Ability to follow protocols and a willingness to ask questions whenever necessary

+ Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies



Department Description:



The Advanced and Exploratory Systems department has responsibility to provide system\-level leadership for the advanced and exploratory activities necessary to support current and future nuclear weapon needs\. The department establishes a systems context to the research and development efforts of the component and Science and Technology communities\. The department is currently pursuing advanced concepts and system development activities in support of National Nuclear Security Administration Phase 1 studies\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance to start\.



Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted L\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.



Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
