We are seeking a Lab Support Technologist to support instrumentation and other activities in the Experimental Structural Dynamics department (01522). Structural dynamics activities are performed in a wide variety of subject areas including weapon systems such as reentry bodies and bombs, components in those systems, civil structures, missile payloads, wind turbines, satellite payloads and industrial products such as cars and tires. This position may involve work with explosives, radiation, thermal, mechanical, or electrical hazards as well as classified material, classified documents, and classified electronic media.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support of facility operations, lab experiments, and field tests for the Structural Dynamics Laboratory
+ Work independently to carry out a variety of tasks within the group, including instrumentation and data acquisition specification, installation, operation and maintenance
+ Application of experimental structural dynamics techniques to characterize the dynamic response of components, sub-assemblies and systems, as well as maintenance of computing capabilities, such as data acquisition systems and servers
+ Support a variety of experimental research & development applications testing at Sandia
+ Lead laboratory activities, including training of new technologists

Required:



+ Associate?s degree in a technical field or 2 years of laboratory work experience
+ Experience with basic laboratory test equipment, including data acquisition equipment, and instrumentation
+ Occasional travel to support customer and program needs
+ Active, current DoE L clearance
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Desired:

+ Experience with structural dynamics, modal testing practices, testing equipment, test setup, and data acquisition systems
+ Experience with instrumenting high value shock/vibration test articles
+ Experience with work instructions and laboratory operating procedures
+ Experience with work planning and controls processes
+ Experience with high consequence safety operations, including explosive and radioactive related processes
+ Ability to interpret, organize, and document experimental results
+ Ability to work effectively in a close team environment
+ Proficiency in computer aided drafting for test fixture design, as well as machining experience
+ Experience with maintaining software and hardware maintenance, including licensing, computer setup, data acquisition systems and server maintenance.
+ Proficiency in scripting languages such as Matlab or Python
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Active DOE Q clearance



The Experimental Structural Dynamics Department (01522) is part of the Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Our center is the steward of engineering mechanics for Sandia and we are dedicated to solving our customer?s most pressing and important national security problems. Our department specializes in experimental technologies related to structural mechanics, structural dynamics and non-destructive evaluation. With our state of the art experimental technologies, technical expertise, and analytical capabilities in sister departments, we provide integrated customer solutions in the following areas: accurate characterization of structural response of systems to force and pressure environments, development and application of state-of-the-art radiographic and acoustic diagnostics, structural dynamics testing including modal analysis and vibration characterization, and design expertise for fixturing and development of experimental configurations. Our mission is to support fundamental research, development, model validation, qualification and acceptance for nuclear weapons, satellites, national missile defense, and other applications.

Position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) granted L-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e.g., DOD, to be considered for this position.
