Job Title:Information Systems Architect (Experienced)


An experienced Information Systems Architect with good communication skills and demonstrated understanding of High Performance Computing (HPC) systems from a design, operations, and user support perspective. Specifically, we are targeting an individual with the experience and ability to assess HPC system architecture, facilities integration, and support needs of a user community, design a system solution that addresses those needs, and execute the

procurement and deployment of that design/solution in a team setting. The individual must be able to work effectively with a team to shepherd HPC systems through their entire life cycle from research to production and support and to disposition of end of life equipment. Projects will range from complete systems (design through deployment and support) to partnering with research and support staff to support any to all phases of HPC system deployment and operations within and external to the department and the lab. The individual selected mush have collaborative and communication skills to effectively interface directly with vendors, customers, and peers within the department, across the lab and throughout the DOE/NNSA complex.


+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus five years of experience; or Master's degree in a relevant discipline plus two years of experience; or equivalent experience (a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience required to qualify in lieu of a degree).
+ A minimum of seven years of Linux System Administration experience.
+ A minimum of five years of experience with production HPC system administration including system installation, integration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
+ Experience with configuration of HPC systems in an operational setting including networking, both internal and external, file systems, facilities requirements, and long term data storage.
+ Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and lead technical project teams.
+ Strong background in Cray's XE/XK/XC related hardware and software.


+ Demonstrated skills and ability to research, evaluate, and design integrated solutions and operate leading edge technology equipment.
+ Design, deployment, and testing of novel solutions and unique configurations in support of research projects such as run-time analytics, resource-aware computing, and dynamic system and applications software responses.
+ Programming and scripting knowledge and experience.
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline plus ten or more years of experience; or Master's degree in relevant discipline plus seven or more years of relevant experience
+ Demonstrated ability to work with external vendors and partners to develop solutions which support Sandia's internal and external collaborators and customers.
+ Ability to develop and execute plans given broad direction and communicate progress to senior staff and management.
+ Ability to travel and represent Sandia at conferences, professional society meetings, vendor workshops, and Executive and Technical Briefings
+ Ability to work outside normal business hours on occasion

The HPC Development Department provides centralized corporate resources including Terascale computer systems, high performance file systems, long term data storage, and full system management and operations services. The department personnel routinely integrate new compute and storage resources onto various corporate or program specific networks, ensure compliance with and generate custom security plans and environments, and through partnerships with the Sandia Mission Divisions set and enforces policies for priority and allocations of Institutional Computing platforms.

Growth areas include exploration of advanced architecture computer platforms, and high security environments, Staff members engage in independent research as well as the maintenance and operations work of systems administration on some of the largest computer systems in the world.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
