A position exists for an experienced, motivated, and customer\-oriented Information Systems Architect to provide technical skills for the delivery of a set of key strategic technical services to enable the success of the High Performance Computing \(HPC\) Systems team at Sandia\. The work environment is fast\-paced and dynamic and thus making effective communication and teaming key elements of success\.

The selected candidate must have:

+ Extensive experience with fault isolation, diagnostics and repair of large multi\-node computer systems running the Linux operating system and will have a strong background working on teams to find root cause for systemic hardware problems\.

+ Proficiency in the Linux operating system,

+ A proven track record of meeting and exceeding project deliverables, consistently delivering on schedule, and a demonstrated desire to learn new technologies, concepts, and processes\.

+ Must be able to work independently within the OS and have a working knowledge of cluster management tools\.

The selected candidate will:

+ Understand technical and functional design requirements of large HPC systems\.

+ Be part of a team that is responsible for ensuring the HPC hardware platforms are fully functional to serve Sandia mission needs\.

+ Identify and track system deficiencies, and recommends and implements resolutions\.

+ Be responsible for ensuring all HPC platforms and associated infrastructure meet corporate and team standards as far as security, maintainability, scalability and performance\.

+ Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies\.

+ Seek and participates in development opportunities above and beyond the required levels and mentors those with less experience through informal and formal means\.

+ Network successfully with a diverse technical population to foster technical growth of the team\.


+ A bachelors degree in a relevant discipline plus five years of experience; or a masters degree in a relevant discipline plus two years of experience; or a doctorate in a relevant discipline; or equivalent experience \(a minimum of 13 years of experience required to qualify in lieu of a relevant degree\)

+ Minimum experience of seven \(7\) years in the fault isolation, diagnostics and servicing of HPC \(or similar\) hardware platforms\.

+ An active DOE Q security clearance\.


+ Functional knowledge of hardware systems as found within an HPC environment\. Demonstrated proficiency in the Linux operating system and HPC systems management and monitoring tools\.

+ Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills\.

+ Demonstrated ability to act as a Sandia technical point of contact for HPC \(or similar\) hardware systems with vendors and contractors\.

+ Expertise in a subset of the following information systems technical areas: hardware architectural design, network infrastructures and concepts, platform documentation, monitoring and trend recognition systems, pre\-deployment planning, on\-site platform installation and deployment of delivered systems\.

+ Experience with deploying HPC systems within a large multi\-tenant data center\.

+ Experience with power and cooling requirements of large scale HPC systems

+ Experience with monitoring and fault isolation of high performance interconnects such as Infiniband and Omni\-path\.

+ Technical certifications or classes in Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer\.

+ Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills to synthesize detailed data into useful information, such as project documentation and developing policies, processes and procedures\.

+ Experience with the establishment and documentation of operational safety protocols

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills\.

+ Experience working in a classified environment\.

+ Ability to function in a dynamic, fast\-paced, multi\-disciplinary team\.

Department Description:

The High Performance Computing Systems team is responsible for the design, deployment and operations of Sandia's enterprise HPC clusters and their supporting infrastructure\. To meet the needs of Sandia's high performance mission computing users, the HPC team deploys and operates clusters, networks and storage systems in four separate security environments\. We focus on creating highly repeatable software and hardware environments to enable quick deployment and efficient operations of computational and storage systems\. Our goal is to insulate our users from the inherently complicated HPC environments to enable them to achieve mission success\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
