The Information Technology Department is seeking a highly motivated Information Systems Architect with a solid understanding of networking, firewalls, WAN/LAN technologies, optical networking, and communication protocols\. The individual must be able to leverage their own knowledge and expertise, as well as that of their team members, to design, implement, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all enterprise network problems relating to network services and traffic controls\.

In any given day, the qualified candidate will be acting as a designated interface for customer engagement and technical leadership to deliver secure, consistent, and highly available network services\. This individual will be experienced in managing customer relationships and expectations by translating customer needs to deliver appropriate technical solutions\. May need the ability to travel and represent SNL during vendor Executive and Technical Briefing conferences\.


+ Requires bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering or related discipline plus entry level experience \(up to two years\); or masters degree in computer science, computer engineering or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience equal to 8 years\.

+ Experience with advanced network design\.

+ Deep knowledge of firewalls, IP Fabrics, and routing and switching technologies\.

+ Familiar with different automation and virtualization technologies\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


+ Programming, Automation, or Scripting skills such as Perl, Python, Ansible, Etc\.

+ Working knowledge of all 7 layers of ISO/OSI Layering Model\.

+ Working knowledge of Packet Analyzers \(NetScout, Wireshark, etc\.\)\.

+ IPV4 and IPv6 implementation experience\.

+ Working IPv4 knowledge including subnetting, addressing, and dynamic routing protocols\.

+ Knowledge of web application firewalls\.

+ Working knowledge of optical networking technologies\.

+ ITIL training and certifications\.

+ Ability to assess, recommend, and coordinate all Department training needs\.

+ Demonstrated ability to work independently on enterprise level assignments\.

+ Demonstrated ability to work well with department team members, management, and both internal and external customers, to identify and resolve network\-centric issues\.

+ Demonstrated ability to mentor internal and external staff as needed\.

+ Demonstrated experience in problem identification, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting skillsets\.

+ Demonstrated project management skills\.

+ Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, design integrations, and operate leading technology equipment\.

Department Description:

Network Design and Operations is responsible for providing secure, consistent, and highly available network infrastructures to ensure Sandias core corporate and mission IT needs\. We manage all of the Sandia production data networks, as well as customer\-focused stand\-alone LANs and enclaves\. We collaborate and integrate with a variety of organizations including the Corporate Computing Help Desk, the Customer Service Units, Facilities Management & Operations, Cyber Security Services & Technologies, Service Management & Monitoring, Advanced Information and Network Systems Engineering, and Information Solutions Center\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
