Information Security Specialist (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking an experienced Security Information Security Specialist to support the Sandia Special Security Office \(CS30\) in providing vital services for Sandia's California Laboratory to over 250 staff members in 16 departments\.

You will perform information security functions to ensure appropriate protection of classified and unclassified controlled information including all activities related to classified matter protection and control, operations security, or facility clearances\.


+ Bachelors degree in relevant Information Systems Technology discipline plus five or more years of experience; or master's degree in relevant discipline plus two or more years experience; or doctorate in relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI clearance\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. DOE Q security clearance\.


+ Active or current \(within 5 years\) DOD TS/DOE Q security clearance\.

+ Experience working in a US Government cyber security program\. In particular experience in SCI/SAP programs; NIST 800 Risk Management Framework \(RMF\) Certification and Accreditation process; DNI, DOD or DOE/NNSA Safeguards and Security Mission, programs, and operations; and/or intelligence community information security plans\.

+ Cyber security certifications \(e\.g\. CISSP, CISM, Security \+, GIAC, CEH\)

+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities;

+ Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia National Laboratories core values;

+ Experience with a law enforcement, intelligence, public, or private\-sector security organization;

+ Knowledge of and experience in one or more major security areas, including classified matter protection and control, information security, physical security, computer security, or personnel security;

+ Experience recommending appropriate and required security measures, techniques, and methods to ensure and improve the protection of personnel, activities, and Sandia and tier contractor facilities;

+ Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions to problems affecting security;

+ Experience and skill preparing and presenting security reports to internal organizations\.

Department Description:

The SNL Field Intelligence Element \(FIE\) is the support organization and strategic partner enabling the SNL FIE Intelligence Work \(IW\) Program to solve the most challenging national security problems\. The SNL FIE comprises of Physical Security, Cyber Security, Program Security, Special Security Office and Information Technology for CA sites\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance\.
