Job Summary



Implements the required physical, technical, and administrative controls to assure the security of information systems, as well as manage their risk\. Includes protection of the integrity, availability, authenticity, and confidentiality of data\. Performs vulnerability analysis and assessments and mitigates system security threats and risks throughout the program life cycle to ensure a secure computing environment\. Effectively implements accrediting agency cyber security requirements and orders, including understanding best practices and National Institute of Standards and Technology \(NIST\) principles\. Ensures compliance with all Information Assurance controls, performs risk analysis, and assists to mitigate cyber and Information Technology \(IT\) risks\.



Primary Job Duties



Performs system certification and accreditation planning, testing, and liaison activities\. Focuses on operational security and responds to inquiries related to security\. Assesses and mitigates threats and risks\. Develops thorough security reporting capabilities\. Identifies needed capabilities and drives execution\. Effectively analyzes iterative security scans as feedback for system revisions\. Understands and is up\-to\-date with industry best practices and leading\-edge security landscapes\. Tackles unknown cyber risks and threats with structured methodology\. Responsible for the validation of system security requirements definition and analysis\. Verifies and validates security requirements\. Delivers threat and awareness and education briefings and documentation\. Reviews security logs for signs of attacks\. Leverages security data from internal and external alerting and requirements sources in an effort to implement effective mitigations\. Develops IT or cyber policy, or guidance for the organization\. May be responsible for computer incident response team\.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Ability to adhere to corporate policies and programs concerning information systems\. Ability to understand network security architectures\. Ability to understand the general information technology infrastructure and system interactions \(servers, LAN, SAN, virtualization, etc\.\)\. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft and Linux operating systems\. Familiarity with common security tools\. Understands threats related to the results of a security assessment\.



Required:



+ Bachelors degree in Information Systems and Assurance, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering plus entry level experience \(up to two years\); or Masters degree in the above mentioned disciplines

+ Work experience \(including internships\) in relevant government environments \(IC, FBI, DOD, DOE, etc\.\)

+ Active or current \(within 5 years\) SCI clearance and active or current DOD TS/DOE Q security clearance\.



Desired:



+ Experience working in a US Government cyber security program

+ Ability to apply cyber security standards, directives, guidance and policies to an architectural framework; Cyber security certifications \(e\.g\. CISSP, CEH\)

+ Experience with Sandia's cyber security requirements, developing and managing security plans\.



Department Description:



The SNL Field Intelligence Element \(FIE\) is the support organization and strategic partner enabling the SNL FIE Intelligence Work \(IW\) Program to solve the most challenging national security problems\. The SNL FIE comprises of Physical Security, Cyber Security, Program Security, Special Security Office and Information Technology for CA sites\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.



Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.



Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.
