Guidance, Navigation and Controls Engineer (C++/Python) (Experienced)

An experienced engineer with Guidance, Navigation and Controls \(GNC\) algorithm development background is needed to develop algorithms for mission analysis work utilizing modeling and simulation tools and implementation in avionics systems\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Prove leading edge technologies through analytical means, including modeling and simulation and HWIL simulators, and then implemented in field\-tested hardware;

+ Develop and employ both traditional and innovative algorithms, including sensor fusion through Kalman\-filters;

+ Work through current challenges including GPS\-denied navigation using SAR technologies, advanced vehicles and missile interceptors\.


+ Master's in Aeronautical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent degree plus 5 years of relevant experience;

+ Bachelor's degree must also be in a STEM discipline;

+ Experience with one or more of the following relevant application and mission domains: estimation, navigation, control systems, dynamics, optimization, Kalman filtering or signal processing theory;

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.


+ Working knowledge/experience with object\-oriented software development \(C\+\+/Java/Python\);

+ A strong analytical background, either through work experience or formal education;

+ Working knowledge/experience with Matlab;

+ Relevant experience in research and development scientific/engineering application software development;

+ Ability to conceive innovative solutions to complex problems;

+ Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and solutions to customers and stakeholders;

+ Demonstrated ability to work on multi\-disciplinary development teams;

+ Excellent teaming and communication skills\.

Department Description:

The Navigation, Pointing, and Control Department delivers motion\-measurement and motion\-control solutions\. We specialize in navigation using inertial measurement units and GPS \(Global Positioning System\), ultra\-accurate position and velocity measurements for synthetic aperture radars, gimbal pointing with microradian accuracy for airborne and space remote sensing, and a variety of controls problems \(e\.g\., wafer and mask positioning with nanometer accuracy for semiconductor manufacturing\)\.The projects in the department require analysis, computer modeling and simulation, algorithm development, sensor development, electronics, implementation of real\-time algorithms in software and hardware, and system integration\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
