Description: Description About the Graduate Development Program: National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
About the Position:
The role of a Graphic Design and Technology Specialist is to provide subject matter expertise, specialized knowledge, and insight in the areas of graphic design and use of learning technologies to support Learning and Development. This includes the design and development of graphical elements and animations to support training content development and assist with learning technologies to support virtual and classroom instructor-led training. Innovative learning solutions must be created in a timely manner in order to effectively respond to client learning requests. To that end, s/he must focus on the contribution to high quality learning experiences for all audiences through sound adult learning principles, multimodal methods and strategies of communicating information, and the appropriate use of technology. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Support the Academy in the design, development, and delivery of training programs to provide employees with the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to perform their jobs in a safe and efficient manner. Produce high quality innovative products for client/customer and internal Academy staff. Ensure that designs incorporate best practices and achieve project outcomes and client satisfaction. Manage multiple design priorities, deadlines and projects efficiently. Consult with departmental subject matter experts and utilize process and procedure documentation to validate accuracy of products to support job specific training content. Ensure drafts, revisions and final designed products are accurate and error free. Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources, and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with the relevant policies and processes. Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in order to share best practices, provide technical advice, and build bases of influence. Assist and coordinate work on projects by contributing to developing project standards and processes to improve project delivery within the relevant function. Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area. Participate and contribute to special projects with Events, Sponsorships, and employee engagement teams. Understand customer demographics and unique regional issues to develop successful communications and training documentation. Support the Company, HR, and Academy specific annual priorities and strategies to reach personal and group objectives. Create artwork, graphics, and animations for training content. Assist in setup and management of virtual instructor-led training (VLT/VILT) sessions on web conference platform. Support video/audio recording sessions, including editing and production for on-demand video training content. Host/produce virtual instructor-led training (VLT/VILT) sessions using web conference platform to ensure audience support and engagement, and allow Instructor/Presenter to focus on content delivery.
Qualifications Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Design, Marketing, Communications, Technology, or other related discipline and/or equivalent work experience required Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018 Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018 Valid driver’s license with safe driving history Proven leadership experience in at least one of the following: College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics). Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience Strong personal computer (PC) and web-based skills Fully versed and experienced in Adobe Creative Cloud software, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign Experience with digital design, video production, latest digital/video design software, technologies and techniques in order to create and edit “micro-learning” videos Proficient in other business-related software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Lync/Skype) Knowledge of the energy/utility industry preferred (Natural Gas and Electric Operations) Ability to travel (NY/MA/RI) for client/customer meetings Capability Requirements: Focused on creating value for clients/customers Social savvy and passionate about appropriate social and digital media solutions, and emerging trends and new technologies Ability to successfully prioritize and handle multiple tasks Strong decision making, problem solving, and time management Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and presentation skills Familiarity with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle Must have strong interpersonal skills, be able to perform in a team environment, collaborate with others, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
