Description: Description About the Graduate Development Program: National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company. About the Position : Performing engineering evaluation of the Gas Transmission System including: integrity assessments, risk management, data collection and analysis, performance tracking, records management, and fitness for service reviews. Assist in implementation of a comprehensive Transmission Integrity Verification Program consistent with existing and proposed regulations for over 1200 miles of intrastate natural gas transmission pipelines. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Identification of pipeline risk and development of mitigation strategies. Conduct engineering review and analysis of integrity related system issues. Maintain register of existing pipelines and corresponding linear attributes. Perform regulatory reporting on pipeline assets. Track and report on key performance indicators related to critical asset classes. Provide technical support for cathodic protection of gas facilities and update procedures where necessary. Review and approve specifications, work methods, and policy documents covering the installation and maintenance of gas transmission pipelines. Review and approve defect assessment and repairs of gas transmission pipelines. Perform risk management and risk modeling utilizing PHA, LOPA, QRA and other risk analysis tools and models. Project development and management. Cost estimating and tracking. As-built project documentation verification. Perform process safety assessments. Develop life extension strategies of existing assets. Perform fit for service reviews and failure analysis. Coordinate class location studies and HCA determinations. Support field assessment of gas transmission pipelines.
Qualifications Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution Concentration in academic studies in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Material Science) Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018 Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018 Valid driver’s license with safe driving history Proven leadership experience in at least one of the following: College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics). Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience Self-motivated and have basic knowledge about natural gas delivery system, codes, design, construction, installation, testing, inspections and maintenance of pipeline assets. Able to travel overnight outside of normal work area as needed. Able to work overtime including nights/weekends/holidays for emergencies or other special projects.
