Description: Description About the Graduate Development Program National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
Position Responsibilities: Provide standard design, drawings, material and equipment specifications for the National Grid USA distribution and streetlight system. Integrate existing NY/NE and future merger companies’ standard designs, drawings, materials and equipment specifications into a common National Grid standard. Investigate and specify new and existing equipment, manufacturers, vendors, equipment problems or failures, innovative designs, materials and methods. Provide engineering support to National Grid regional and district engineers, and operations personnel for the resolution of operating, reliability, environmental, maintainability and safety concerns. Investigate, analyze, and evaluate information gained through the trade industry, regulatory publications, attendance of industry meetings and seminars in order to maintain a high level of proficiency for translation into pertinent technical information, procedures and standards. Establish and issue work and equipment bulletins to ensure safety and reliability of existing and new equipment, materials and work practices. Write reports and communicate results and recommendations through presentations. Engineering Graduate Rotations: Our engineers are shaping the future of the energy industry. This position will take part in our Engineering Graduate Development Rotational Program, an 18-month experience to help you develop technical and leadership skills. You will complete three 6-month rotations in varying engineering departments. Your first rotation will be in the role outlined above and you will return to this role following two other 6-month rotations where your knowledge of engineering and project management at National Grid will be expanded.
Qualifications Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering (electrical preferred) from an accredited institution Concentration in academic studies relevant to one of the career paths Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018 Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018 Valid driver’s license with safe driving history Proven leadership experience in at least one of the following: College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics). Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience Knowledge of electrical equipment, application, operation and construction practices. Support for off-hours emergency work is required.
