We have an excellent opportunity for a Firmware Test Engineer for our Intrusion & Monitoring Solutions business in Costa Mesa, CA. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills to test products and solutions as identified by the business. The candidate must be able to operate in a matrix organization, working with engineers, program managers, and product managers to review technical requirements and create firmware and system test plans, test specifications, automated tests, and execute manual black box tests to meet the program objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with the internal team and/or partners to fully verify and ensure quality of firmware and embedded systems products, while maintaining schedule, performance, and budget objectives.


  • Responsible for taking ownership of product quality of small to large engineering initiatives (including, but not limited to firmware quality, project documentation, end-user documentation, and oversight of hardware, and firmware testing)
  • Works in a team environment, participates and coordinates the activities of local and remote team members or 3rd parties on a project
  • Drives quality into every aspect of the process (including design artifacts, meetings, and change management)
  • Works with products that are used by hundreds of thousands of customers every day and which have high visibility both nationally and internationally
  • Validates requirements, design, development, and the release of firmware and embedded systems
  • Evaluates requirements for testability, reviews system designs, develops a quality plan, creates test plans, executes thorough tests, selects and/or develops testing tools, and writes test cases/scripts to ensure a high-quality customer experience
  • Provide expert system knowledge to internal team and customer. Liaisons with support team to root cause customer field issues and help determine root cause

  • Possess working knowledge and demonstrated experience in firmware verification and quality assurance
  • Experience with testing firmware, software, APIs, hardware systems, and communication protocols
  • Experience with automation test tools and/or creating automated tests for functionality, protocols, stability, and/or reliability
  • Experience with a variety of development processes, methodologies and tools related to firmware development
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in assessing priority and severity of issues
  • Must be self-motivated and results-oriented

  • Detailed oriented, Possess good troubleshooting skills to help enable identification of defects

  • Bachelor's degree with 3–5+ years’ experience
