We are seeking a Facilities Technologist at Sandia's Carlsbad, NM remote site for the Special Projects/Remote Site Support Group\. The successful candidate will perform technical work to support engineering and maintenance activities involving maintenance, inspection, and facilities and infrastructure system operations\. This posiition also serves as the Facility Security Officer for Sandias Carlsbad remote site\. This Sandia remote site is staffed by one senior manager, three department managers, and approximately fifty other members of the workforce; this technologist position ensures that the leased facilities in which we work in Carlsbad, New Mexico are well maintained and the systems on which our technical work rely are in good working order\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Under general direction, provide facility maintenance services, inspect the facilities on a regular basis, and take initiative to contact the landlords maintenance staff when necessary;

+ Provide basic Facility Security Officer and Emergency Coordination services in this unclassified environment;

+ Apply DOE and Sandia security requirements at this remote site;

+ Team and collaborate with both security staff at Sandias Albuquerque site and security personnel employed by DOE's Carlsbad Field Office and/or the WIPP management and operating contractor for effective results;

+ Lead the Sandia/Carlsbad Emergency Management Team;

+ Participate in DOE Joint Information Center emergency management drills and exercises as the local Sandia representative;

+ Project a positive, helpful, and professional image to the Sandia workforce, to local DOE officials, and to the landlords representatives\. Incumbent will be expected to exercise judgment and discretion in the performance of these duties\.



**This position requires the successful candidate to reside near, and to work in, Carlsbad, New Mexico\.**



Required:



+ High School Diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience;

+ Knowledge and experience in facility maintenance activities, including mechanical, electrical, and chemical processing systems;

+ Understanding of various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents including drawings, schematics, and operations manuals;

+ Experience in performing a variety of facilities\-related functions, work preparation; inspection, monitoring, and control of facility systems and components; technical interface between building occupants and the landlords maintenance staff; and monitoring and analyzing equipment performance;

+ Capability to troubleshoot general facility systems or equipment maintenance problems as required;

+ Ability to report and track progress toward goals for schedules and costs related to facility equipment;

+ Ability to ensure that all results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements;

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance\.



Desired:



+ Understanding of applicable Sandia National Laboratories and industry regulatory and safety guidelines;

+ Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lockout/tagout policies and procedures\.

+ Knowledge and experience in facility maintenance activities, including mechanical, electrical, and chemical processing systems\.

+ Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lockout/tagout policies and procedures\.

+ Understanding of various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents including drawings, schematics, and operations manuals\.

+ Ability to clearly communicate the status of facility equipment and maintenance and upgrade activities\.

+ Knowledge of Sandia's facility and operational policies, practices, and procedures\.

+ Knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting facility maintenance and operations as well as facility security\.

+ Knowledge of the types of work in which Sandia engages in support of WIPP\.



Department Description:



The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant \(WIPP\) is the world's only licensed and operating deep geologic repository for the disposal of transuranic nuclear waste\. WIPP is operated by Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC, under contract to the Department of Energy's Carlsbad Field Office \(CBFO\)\. Sandia provides scientific advice to CBFO in many areas, including modifications to the repository's operating permits, periodic recertification of the repository, and on\-going monitoring of repository performance against regulatory requirements\. The Defense Waste Management Programs Group \(8880\) provides the scientific and other resources needed to advise the DOE on issues that may pertain to continued and uninterrupted certification and permitting of WIPP\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.



Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.
