We are seeking a Facilities Technologist

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Track / review all editing activities related to the FGIS files.
+ Receive and manage all excavation and penetration permits, utility spotting program lead and site modification request coordinator, back up to CAD Lead.
+ Conduct GPR Scans and 3D scans in the field with support from other team members.
+ Provide backup support to other FGIS roles


+ High school diploma plus five or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and directly related experience. Directly related experience must be related to working with GPS data, utility locating services and processes, or surveying related practices.
+ Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems, data entry, editing, and utility system mapping.
+ Knowledge of utility excavation safety and spotting processes.


+ Ability to perform field work which includes, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys on a variety of Building elements, 3D building scans, and occasionally gather GPS survey data in the field.
+ A self-starter capable of managing several deliverables and tracking permits as they work through the permitting process from start to finish.
+ Secondary education in the field of Civil Engineering, CADD, or Surveying or other related program.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in using GPS, and 3D scanning tools to capture utility and facility as-built information. Includes processing, registering and distribution of data into a variety of Engineering Software platforms; such as Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk applications.
+ Demonstrated understanding of GPR technology and the desire to complete GPR training and certification that demonstrates proficiency in the use of GSSI GPR equipment.
+ Excellent Oral and Written communication skills with the ability to provide excellent customer service.
+ Ability to perform varied and complex administrative duties with a broad scope in support of organizational programs, projects, and activities.
+ Ability to gather and analyze data and present options based on findings. The successful candidate will lead and guide activities within our FGIS and Permitting programs.
+ Soft skills and technical skills that will enable the candidate to be the center representative on corporate or divisional task forces related to excavation and penetration safety.
+ Ability to work independently, under general direction, and report upon completion of assigned duties and projects. Ability to translate guidance in terms of results expected into program results.
+ Ability to team with other administrative support personnel, maintenance personnel and wide variety of professional staff to meet objectives.
+ Expected to demonstrate creativity in how work is performed and in addressing work processes.

The Infrastructure Operations Department performs Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering; and Facilities Geographic Information Systems management for facilities and infrastructure systems. The department supports the technical operations, maintenance, and engineering for Sandia buildings and site infrastructure systems which include paving, parking, gates, turnstiles, fencing, underground water and water treatment, sanitary sewer, storm drain, overhead and underground high voltage power, natural gas, and landscapes. The department provides the technical expertise to institute facilities standards, increase safety, improve reliability, enhance performance and reduce life cycle costs of buildings and infrastructure systems and provides excavation/penetration permits, utility identification, and mapping services using GPS and GPR technologies.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.
