We are seeking an Environment, Safety, and Security Professional to foster and sustain the safety culture at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology \(CINT\) facility\. CINT is a Department of Energy\-funded nanoscience research facility that provides users from around the world with access to state of the art expertise and instrumentation in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with a focus on nanoscience integration\. CINT has a large and diverse work population, including a large number of foreign national users\. Because of the nature of the technical work and the transient user population, this opportunity is both complex and dynamic in nature\. The facility is located in the Sandia Science & Technology Park\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Work in partnership with all members of 1802 to develop a global awareness to current Center safety issues

+ Provide professional guidance for interpretation, application and integration of worker safety and health to lab users or to external regulatory entities

+ Provide oversight of management surveillances, work planning activities, safety reviews, and accident investigations, and provide related data and recommendations to management

+ Utilize Work Planning and Control Criteria for Safe Design and Operations principles

+ Implement Sandia Safety and Security policies

+ Communicate and implement facility wide changes

+ Organize, prioritize and complete multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities



Required:



+ Bachelors degree in STEM discipline

+ Five years experience with ES&S or ES&H

+ Experience with Work Planning and Control Criteria for Safe Design and Operations

+ Experience with the hazards associated with chemical synthesis, biology, or characterization laboratories or a strong desire to fill in gaps in this knowledge

+ Experience with or education related to Federal/OSHA environment, safety and health \(ES&H\) requirements, policies, and procedures

+ Experience with chemical management systems, hazardous waste disposal, and tracking assessment data

+ Experience communicating complex issues

+ Experience delivering ES&S or ES&H guidance and implementing policies

+ Ability to obtain a DoE L clearance



Desired:



+ Masters degree in STEM or relevant discipline

+ Formal education and/or training in worker safety and health programs

+ Experience with Nanotechnology Safety

+ Experience as a Senior Causal Analyst

+ Experience applying quality tools \(e\.g\. Lean methodology, Six Sigma\)

+ Experience working with transient worker populations

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance



Department Description:



The 1800 Operations group provides operational support and safety expertise for the Materials, Physical, and Chemical Sciences Center\. Center 1800 operations are distributed across several major facilities in Tech Area I, Thermal Spray Research Laboratory \(TSRL\) in Tech Area III, and two offsite facilities \- the Advanced Materials Laboratory \(AML\) and the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology \(CINT\)\.



The 1802 team is currently comprised of Environment, Safety, and Health professionals and facility technicians\. Both groups play an essential role in developing a culture of continuous safety awareness and operational improvement\. Department 1802 is responsible for facilitating center\-level strategic processes and establishing innovative safe\-work practices to ensure mission demands are safely met\. Instrumental to the work of this department is the sustained promotion of safety through novel approaches either within the lab or through online tools\. Valued members of this team lead the implementation of corporate safety initiatives and help foster successful communication between the line and management\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.



Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
