Successful candidates will join a high performing technical team in the design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized components and subsystems for national security applications\. These components are designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, enable integration and interface to complex host systems, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments\. Technologists support the engineering staff through employing scientific theory/methods, advanced engineering principles, and technical judgment to design, develop, qualify and deliver product that meet the needs of the customer\.


+ Associate degree in Material Science, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with 2 or more years of relevant experience; or a Bachelors, or advanced degree in Material Science, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.


+ Experience with ceramic materials and processing

+ Experience/course work with analytical instruments, methods for materials characterization/testing and interpreting results

+ Experience/course work in application of the scientific method; gathering, analyzing and summarizing technical data for decision making purposes

+ Willing to work hands on in a lab and/or production environment

+ Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work in a diverse team environment and collaborate with engineers and other technologists to solve problems

+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and present ideas/results to the team

+ Desire to work in a schedule driven environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deliverable deadlines

+ Current / Active DOE Q\-level security clearance

Department Description:

The Active Ceramics Value Stream at Sandia National Laboratories provides active ceramic elements for the Nuclear Security Enterprise with demonstrated value, performance, and confidence that meet customer delivery schedules\. Also, the department provides a broad range of options for fabricating and machining ceramic, glass, and glass\-ceramic components\. Our capabilities range from chemical synthesis of powders, powder processing, billet formation and machining, component assembly, fabrication and testing\. We strive to achieve agility and value\-added processes through the continuous utilization of Lean/Six Sigma methodology\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.
