Job Details

The Engineering Specialist works with global teams and creates an environment where mechanical design concepts are proven through simulation analysis and test lab models. The role is ideal for an individual with a passion for solving challenging flexible multi-body dynamics, structural dynamics, rotor dynamics, machine design and physics based problems. The principal function is to perform mechanical calculations, flexible multi-body dynamics (MBD) simulation and nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) to design and improve scroll, screw and reciprocating compressors, components and systems. Working within the Applied Mechanics Group, he/she will execute technical projects in compression technology for refrigeration and air conditioning applications chosen to impact business development in residential, commercial and transportation markets. This is an exciting role calling for one who can innovate when faced with obstacles. 

  • Perform accurate simulations in flexible MBD, nonlinear motion analysis, structural dynamics, rotor dynamics and impact dynamics using nonlinear FEA software. 
  • Drive innovation and discover better ways to execute simulation tasks. 
  • Work with test engineers to coordinate and support testing. 
  • Validate simulations with hand calculations, simple numerical/analytical test models and lab test models. 
  • Self-motivated with high performance skills and ability to work with global Engineering Teams. 
  • Apply critical thinking to interpret, review, make recommendations, and document highly complex simulation results. 
  • Execute dynamic and nonlinear simulation of complex mechanical machines to predict component response and machine performance. 
  • Work independently to identify boundary conditions, create analysis schedules and maintain status as per project plan. 
  • Present work in technical/leadership forums and in standard report formats using good communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Information

  • Travel: 5% 



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience plus seven (7) years hands-on experience in an engineering simulation occupation (flexible MBD and nonlinear FEA). 
  • Relevant software skills in one or more of the following: NX SOL601, Siemens LMS Samcef Mecano, ADINA, Abaqus SIMPACK, MSC ADAMS, Marc, ANSYS.


  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics or similar major. 
  • Twelve (12) years or more hands-on experience in an engineering simulation occupation (flexible MBD and nonlinear FEA). 
  • Working knowledge of NX, Mecano and ADINA. 
  • Previous experience in compressor industry, rotating machinery or similar. 
  • Strong skills in and passion for machine design, dynamics and analysis (book references: Shigley's, Juvinall, Robert Blevins, Roark's, Harris Shock & Vibration, etc.) 
  • Average programming skills for an Engineer. 
  • Greatest joy is solving problems.
