We are seeking an experienced professional with skills and qualifications in the following area:

Job # 17-0013 – Engineer, Strategic Planning – Owensboro, KY

Position Information:

This position reports directly to the Manager of Business Development & Strategic Planning and is responsible for performing the analysis, planning, estimating, design, construction, and/or alterations of company facilities. This position assists in preparing monthly and annual compliance reports while working under supervision. Incumbents will demonstrate technical ability and rely on established guidelines and/or direction from senior staff/management and assist in the effective completion of major projects and/or work assignments and perform basic engineering tasks and projects of lesser complexity, relying on established guideline and/or detailed direction and have the ability to present the results of research and analysis

Primary Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):




  • Assist in research and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design and/or application
  • Assist in research and analyzes data to develop/produce/refine engineering facility designs, preliminary scope of work, and estimates
  • Maintain data sources to analyze energy demand, supply and competitive forces that impact short and long term revenue and throughput
  • Participate in performing capacity analysis studies, and develop and maintain the system computational flow model




  • Assist in verification that work products conform to applicable codes, standards, specifications, and requirements of internal/external business partners
  • Assist in preparation of monthly and annual compliance (DOE and FERC) compliance filings
  • Assist in preparation of exhibits for regulatory and legal proceedings


Communication and Collaboration:


  • Communicates with project teams to outline work plan and assign responsibilities and scope of authority
  • Communicates with internal and external business partners to determine needs and satisfaction; to determine current status and priorities; and to obtain technical advice
  • Help to Identify, develop and recommend improvements to engineering processes and company policies and practices
  • Develops, refines and implements value added recommendations throughout the business unit


Project Support:


  • Assist in performing optimizations, troubleshooting and feasibility studies
  • Assist in the coordination of goals, work plans, responsibilities and resources and monitors work performance in alignment with business objectives
  • Prepares reports, specifications, plans, studies, estimates, hydraulic models and/or designs
  • Provides engineering information and technical advice, investigating all variables for consideration of possible solutions
  • Assist in developing the long range strategic plan including the implementation goals for annual strategic plan components of the business plan

Other duties as assigned




  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ABET – Accredited Engineering Program)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in applying engineering principles toward design proposals and specifications
  • Familiarity with project management fundamentals
  • Experience communicating data and concepts in a manner understandable to a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Valid Driver’s license and insurability
  • Ability to read, understand project drawings, specifications, plans, studies, estimates, hydraulic models and/or designs
  • Ability to work successfully with individuals throughout the organization
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Office
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Excel or similar



  • Experience with construction
  • Fundamentals of Engineering certificate
  • Experience as project lead
  • Knowledge of Company policies and gas pipeline operations
  • Experience using financial reporting or project execution software

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work overtime with or without notice, including non-traditional hours
  • Ability to work in both an open office environment as well as outside in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to work positively and effectively prioritize in a high-stress, demanding environment
  • Travel up to 25% average, automobile and plane normally, but  may be required to travel high percentages of time to address specific items throughout the year
