Engineer Scientist III – PDU Electrification 
Knoxville, TN

The Position:
This position leads modeling projects to develop utility member strategic frameworks that evaluate electrification opportunities in their service territories, and assists member utilities in the application of tactical tools to pursue program implementations with their Residential, Commercial and Industrial customers in the following areas:
• Improved productivity and competitiveness of end-use customers through advancements in overall energy efficiency, reduced costs, and improved throughput;
• Reduced net regional emissions to benefit the public-at-large;
• Enhanced quality of end-use customers’ products or services;
• Reduced on-site emissions at end-use customers’ facilities, which assists compliance with environmental regulations and fosters worker health and safety.

Performs advanced engineering/scientific analysis with minimal direction and supervision. Beginning to demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in providing technical solutions. Works directly with EPRI staff and high interaction with members and industry.

Job Functions:
• Conducts technical searches and analyzes information in support of the project team.
• Conducts independent research and begins to manage small, less complex projects
• Provides technical advice and counsel to other professionals within EPRI.
• Assists Project/Program managers in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals, technical publications/papers, and making presentations.
• Reviews progress and evaluates results. Makes changes in methods, design or equipment where necessary.
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
• Performs advanced engineering/ scientific analysis in technical or scientific areas. Works directly with member utilities, EPRI staff, and governmental agencies.
• Leads technical searches and analyzes technical information.
• Leads research at the direction of the project manager.
• Work is performed under minimal general supervision.
• Exercises judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible technical assignments
• Communicates analysis and results, written and verbal, to internal and external stakeholders through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops and conferences.
• Presents research internally and externally

Education Level and Years of Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required; MS or PHD in Engineering or Sciences preferred.
• 4-5 years of engineering experience or comparable work/educational experience required; 5 years of experience in modeling technologies preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Required some supervision and guidance to recognize strategic issues and build collaborative projects
• Responsible for the success of individual projects
• Works closely with contractors or staff to complete project research
• May participate in multiple projects
• Individual contributor
• May present research results to advisors or technical staff/members
• Starting to develop technical depth in 1-2 areas
• Focus on projects within a program
• Effectively work as part of a team

The Ideal Candidate:
• Hands-on experience with electrification modeling and analysis tools and the development of electrification technology load shapes
• Experience in leading research activities
• Knowledge in the Electrification industry energy resources
• Skill in leading projects, organizing, analyzing and documenting research results
• Good written and verbal communication and project management skills
