We are seeking a Engineering Systems Integration/Implementation Professional

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Department 6815 is seeking a high\-performing security/physical protection expert to support domestic physical protection projects that enhance security at high\-activity radiological facilities\. As an experienced physical security engineer, you will join a team in conducting physical security analyses, creating physical security system upgrade designs, developing cost estimates for upgrading security systems, managing security upgrade projects on security systems, and executing performance and acceptance testing of security systems\. Work will require frequent travel \(40% to 50%\) to domestic facilities, interaction with government and facility officials, participation in contract negotiations, and completion of program\-specific documentation\. The option to work remotely from outside the Albuquerque area is a possibility depending on the candidates qualifications and demonstrated experience to work independently\.


+ Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus five or more years of experience; or master's degree in relevant discipline plus two or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; relevant degree fields include: Mechanical, electrical/computer, civil, nuclear, industrial, or systems engineering\.

+ Understanding of physical protection methodologies with at least five years of experience working independently and as team member in the design, testing, auditing, and evaluation of security systems\.

+ Three years of experience working directly with a Global Material Security \(NNSA\-20\) activity\.

+ Demonstrated ability to document site configurations, security designs, and assessments with attention to details for customer reporting\.

+ Currently holds a DOE L clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance; ability and willingness to travel frequently \(up to 50%\)\.


+ Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, nuclear, industrial, or systems engineering with five or more years of experience\.

+ Knowledge of leading\-edge security systems, designs, and software\.

+ Knowledge of radiological source applications and facility types\.

+ Experience conducting security physical security analyses at high\-risk facilities \(e\.g\., nuclear reactor or high\-activity radiological facilities\)\.

+ Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people at all working levels, both inside and outside Sandia, coupled with a customer\-oriented attitude\.

+ Demonstrated skills in project management and/or project leadership\.

+ Demonstrated ability to work in a high\-pressure environment\.

+ Strong communication skills \(including verbal and written reports and presentations\)\.

+ Demonstrated engineering related problem\-solving abilities\.

Department Description:

Department 6815, Domestic Rad/Nuc Security and Analysis, supports the governments Countering Nuclear Terrorism \(CNT\) effort by improving the protection of radiological and nuclear \(rad/nuc\) material and performing system studies that address nuclear terrorism threats\. The Department develops physical security upgrades for domestic rad/nuc sites using a systematic life\-cycle approach including analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, training, and sustainment\. The department also performs independent analysis and studies that are used to provide insights and advice to executives and government agencies on policy and investment decisions in CNT\. The department has expertise in physical security systems, project management, radiological and nuclear terrorism risk analysis, nuclear detection architectures, nuclear engineering, nuclear weapons, and health physics\. The departments main customers are DOE/NNSA\-21 Global Material Security \(GMS\) and DHS/Domestic Nuclear Detection Office \(DNDO\)\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted L\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.

This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
