Track and maintain calibration of test equipment.

Help plan and coordinate environment tests. Rework PWAs and build test cables.

Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of electrical and electronic apparatus and equipment, including the entire process of electronic fabrication, packaging, and assembly of micromodules into complex electronic equipment systems.

Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical and electronic apparatus and equipment, including electronic fabrication, packaging, and assembly of components into complex electronic equipment systems. Fabricates, packages, and tests semiconductors, printed circuit board design and test, circuit or micromodules. Assists in conducting experiments and acquiring data. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications.

Typically requires skill in electronics or related technologies, such as mechanics or optics. May require specialized training for the control of radioactive material and wastes. Knowledge and experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance. Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of electrical design, engineering, or maintenance. Ability to prepare and present electrical systems and equipment testing and reporting. Knowledge of the use, distribution, and potential variances and hazards of electrical currents. Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications. Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories' electricity-related policies, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of requirements and environmental impacts affecting electrical design, engineering, and maintenance. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting electronic systems and equipment. Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.


+ Associate's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) or similar technical field with at least two years' relevant experience;
+ Experience in reading and understanding circuit diagram schematics;
+ Significant Soldering experience with fine pitch surface mount components;
+ Experience in a lab environment working with normal light electronics lab equipment (scopes, DMMs, pulse generators, etc.) to troubleshoot circuit boards and equipment;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q security clearance.


Bachelor's degree in EET; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills; Independence and strong problem-solving skills; Proficient at general computer skills; Strong organizational skills and attention to details; Experience performing assembly and inspection of Electronic Assemblies; Experience debugging and fixing PWAs; Experience with LabView and/or similar lab software; Experience managing/maintaining a lab; Experience with 3D printers and hand tools.

Organization 8734, Telemetry Systems- along with sister departments 08733, 08735 and 08736- has responsibility for the design, development, and qualification of weapon system instrumentation (or telemetry systems) for use in Joint Test Assemblies (JTAs) for the entire US nuclear arsenal. The JTA program is a cornerstone of the Stockpile Evaluation Program and allows critical assessment of the weapon system, DoD platform, and support personnel performance.

To fulfill its mission responsibilities, organizations 873x employ a diverse and talented group of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technologists. The organizations collaborate with other NW groups within Sandia and across the Nuclear Weapons Complex, including NNSA, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the production agencies (National Security Center and Pantex), and the DoD. Organizations 0873x are also expected to have significant interactions with other DOE Laboratories and other NNSA entities (beyond the NW Complex), the DoD, and other government agencies.
