Electronics Performance Technologist (Early/Mid-Career)

Working in our department is a very unique opportunity\. The Systems Research Department is seeking an Electronics Technologist to work with design engineers and other technologists to understand electronic performance requirements to develop and implement strategies for test and evaluation of original electronic designs, and systems analysis and assessments\. Other work will include final product assembly\. These designs include a variety of electronic components including analog and digital integrated circuits\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform assembly and rework/repair of printed wiring assemblies, cables and other components intended for use in experimental lab setups or for critical applications\.

+ Work both autonomously as an assembly and rework/repair technologist across the functions of the department as well as a member of a small team\.

+ Balance work to support multiple organizations while still maintaining lab ownership and other daily personnel responsibilities with the aid and direction of the manager\. The work will entail not only electronics assembly, but also preparation of kits for electronic assemblies for outside assembly, diagnosis of failed electronic assemblies, preparation and participation in field tests, and operation of a variety of mechanical assembly and/or fabrication\.

+ Work on stretch assignments such as embedded controller programming, schematic entry, fabrication oversight at local shops, and work planning\.

+ Reasonably expect to be a lab owner and alternate lab owner\.


+ Bachelors degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Technology, or Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics\.

+ Experience with bench testing of electronic components and circuit assemblies using oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers\.

+ Active and ability to maintain a required US DOE Q\-level security clearance; or other higher level active clearance\.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain and SCI\-level security clearance, which may require a polygraph\.


+ Must be familiar with and able to read assembly drawings, schematics, Bill of Materials \(BOM\) and component part markings as well as working with electronic assemblies and components susceptible to damage by electrostatic discharge\.

+ Must have experience using assembly tools such as a solder iron, microscope, hot plate, hot air pen, oven, etc\.;

+ Experience developing, programming, operating, and interpreting data using electronic laboratory test equipment for performance evaluation\.

+ Good communication, computer, and analytical skills\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.
