We are seeking a Electromechanical Technologist

An opening exists for a Technologist in the Arming and Firing Systems department to support our operations by playing an active role in the development and fielding of training devices to support the Stabilization and Joint Technical Operations Team \(JTOT\) render safe mission\. Activities will involve the hands\-on fabrication of devices used in training exercises, supporting nationwide field training activities, and supporting the maintenance of equipment and laboratory capabilities\. For all work, rigorous implementation of work planning and control processes are expected to ensure safe, secure, and high\-quality operations\. The individual is responsible for assuring effectiveness of existing processes with respect to safety, quality, cost, and schedule\.

**The chosen individual will be required to travel approximately 20% of the time**


Associates degree in mechanical or electrical technology or 4 years relevant experience in lieu of an associates degree\.

Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q security clearance

Experience with high consequence/rigor safety operations, such as explosive, high voltage, and radioactive related processes\.


Experience working with classified information and materials\.

Law Enforcement Bomb Squad or Military EOD experience\.

Stabilization Program experience\.

Rapid prototyping, 3D printer, and machine tool experience\.

Demonstrated experience designing and executing field training exercises\.

Experience with laboratory fabrication/test equipment, such as digital multi\-meters, soldering and population of circuit boards\.

Ability to draw and interpret basic electronic circuit schematics\.

Experience with problem solving and troubleshooting\.

Experience in maintaining laboratory facilities and documentation\.

Motivated to learn new process technologies/techniques\.

Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications\.

Experience working effectively as a team member\.

Department Description:

The Arming and Firing Systems Department, 6635, serves the nation's need for innovation, research, design, development, maintenance and testing of arming and firing \(A&F\) systems\. The department provides innovative design and development of specialized firing systems and associated electro\-mechanical devices\. We provide specialized training in the areas of IED/IND/WMD render\-safe, and responder technologies\. In doing so, we collaborate with multiple Sandia departments to ensure continued innovation and success to serve customers from DOE/NNSA, DoD, DOJ, DHS, and other government agencies via IHNS, DSA, and NW Program Management Units\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
