We are seeking an Electrical Engineer \(EE\) or Physicist to support research & development related to fast\-transient electromagnetic radiation environment simulation and electrical\-systems response effects/metrology\.



Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to:



+ Planning, conducting and reporting results of component/sub\-system/system modeling, testing and experimentation; specifically, the EE will define instrumentation use and configuration, specify sensors for electrical diagnostics, and use of laboratory equipment control for electrical transient and RF injection and ambient field test simulations\.

+ Perform analysis of data collection and correlations of data with electromagnetic coupling and penetration analyses and models

+ Be responsible for general laboratory stewardship such as ES&H, security, and maintaining work planning and control documentation, managing property, coordinating instrument calibration and repair, and coordinating building\-related activities with Facilities personnel as needed

+ Working in a dynamic small team environment and managing time according to work demands

+ Travel as required to support technical meetings, field surveys and testing



Required:



+ Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline, plus 10 years related experience

+ Experience with mathematical computational programming languages

+ Waveform Data Acquisition and Analysis Experience

+ Experience using high voltage, RF bandwidth diagnostics and measuring equipment such as EM\-component field sensors, voltage and current probes \(such V\-dots, B\-dots, CVTs and CVRs\), or antennas, oscilloscopes, spectrum or network analyzers

+ Experience using high voltage pulse generators, RF sources, and amplifiers

+ Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences

+ Active, current DoE Q or equivalent clearance



Desired:



+ Experience with automated control of laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems \(preferably LabVIEW\)

+ Experience documenting measurement results, including plotting and analyzing data

+ Experience with fiber optic telemetry systems

+ Experience with electronics modeling and design



Department Description:



The Electromagnetic \(EM\) Systems Engineering and Qualification Department \(1354\) provides analysis, experiments and design guidance to support the development of well\-shielded advanced electronics systems for survivability purposes in conjunction with a variety of electrical test laboratories\. This includes direct injection of electrical insults into test assets and use of large environmental test facilities to simulate fast\-pulse, microwave, lightning, electrostatic discharge and broadband continuous\-wave \(CW\) environments\. We support the qualification of complex electrical systems in normal, abnormal and elements of severe electromagnetic \(EM\) environments\. Laboratory facilities include humidity\-temperature control and combined electrical with elevated temperature testing within enclosed EM shielded rooms\. Full system qualification testing includes use of Sandia's Mode\-Stirred Chambers, 4\-meter height GTEM cell, a transportable \(variable size \- up to 7\.2 meters in height\) fast\-pulse simulator used for combined environments testing, the Sandia Lightning Simulator for direct\-strike and nearby lightning environments, and a severe amplitude EM fast\-pulse simulator\. Department 1354 works closely with Dept\. 1352 \(EM Theory\), Dept\. 1353 \(Electrical Sciences and Experiments\), and Group 1340 \(Radiation Effects Sciences & Applications\)\. Our customers base includes various organizations across Sandia as well as Strategic Partnering Programs with external government agencies and industry\. Current programs include: Mil\-Std 461, HERO, and electrostatic discharge testing \(ESD\) testing; enhanced survivability of systems life extension programs, various delivery system\-legacy payload pairs addressing EM survivability, and severe environments effects/survivability/restoration to/of civil and government agency electrical distribution and communications infrastructure\.
