The Early Career Development Program (ECDP) is part of Covanta’s strategy to hire and develop a high performing, diverse talent pool. The ECDP is a three-year program in which participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and receive wide exposure to Covanta’s different business functions through a coordinated rotation among a variety of assignments, both within and outside their primary department. Candidates for the ECDP are required to have a bachelor’s degree and zero to three years’ of relevant experience by the hire date. For a list of additional qualifications, please refer to the Position Requirements section below. ECDP candidates interested in being considered for multiple ECDP positions should submit a separate application for each requisition and include a cover letter describing how the ECDP program fits with their career goals.


The ECDP hire for the Information Technology team will perform a variety of functions in support of the enterprise application development efforts.  This will include providing technical development and operational support to Covanta’s global organization.  This role will leverage knowledge of current industry software development languages, techniques, standards and processes.  Support activities will include the full Software Development Life Cycle (SCLC) process of analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and operational support. 


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Development of new or enhancement of existing applications

  • Use application development expertise to support internal development activities.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of application requirements, objectives, deliverables and specifications.
  • Design application process changes, write specifications, develop solutions, analyze and documenting process flows. 
  • Consistently write, translate and code applications according to specifications.
  • Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and performance of applications as required.
  • Administer testing and analysis of test results for application development and/or enhancements.


 Support of “run the business” operations

  • Work with business analysts in identification, prioritization and resolution of issues.  
  • Lead the technical application support to include investigation, development, test and implementation of application performance problems, hot fixes and upgrades. 
  • Develop and maintain technical, testing and user manuals for both applications as required.  


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related field(s) from an accredited university/ college

Experience:

0 – 3 years or relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Capable of developing in ASP. NET and Java.
  • Familiarity programming with C# or C/C++, or comparable software development toolset
  • Familiar with Microsoft IIS, Apache Tomcat or equivalent  
  • Familiar with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, XML and jQuery Web services (SOAP and REST)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve highly complex technical problems. 
  • Able to clearly articulate concepts and ideas
  • Software analysis and design experience
  • Experience in systems infrastructure and technical application support
  • Experience with relational databases and operating systems experience
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
