Description: Description National Grid ispleased to offer PAID internships from May 2017 through August 2017 for currentcollege students seeking to gain experience with a world-class organization.Various internships are available company-wide for college students.
As an intern, you cantake advantage of a wide range of technical and operational opportunities. Youwill acquire critical insight into our company and our industry, and developvaluable networking connections, which will help prepare you for futurecareer opportunities. Once selected for an internship, you will participate ina broad range of meaningful work experiences that are related to yourinterest and field of study. Interns will have the opportunity to attend aninteractive orientation within the first weeks of hire and participate innetworking sessions and lunch & learns with company executives andother interns, as well as volunteer in a community-based event. Weare specifically targeting students for an internship opportunity in thefollowing department: Transmission Design-NY: Syracuse, NY The TransmissionDesign-NY Department is primarily responsible for the design of simple andcomplex Overhead Electric Transmission (23kV-345kV) projects throughout theUpstate New York National Grid territory. The department is responsible for developing design and associateddocumentation used for Capital Construction projects and recording/updating ourCompany records to reflect what is actually constructed in the field at thecompletion of a project. A majority ofthe design work is Civil/Structural, designing the wire conditions andsupporting structures to meet National Electric Safety Code and Companyspecific requirements as well as State and Federal Regulatory requirements;Electrical Engineering is also involved with the design of specific electricalcomponents on overhead lines such as smart switches and voltage regulators. As an intern, you willhave the ability to take part in the following activities: Prepare finished drawings including diagrams, maps and records prepared by others. Develop simple drawings, parts of drawings and details from complete information assembled from various sources. Revise existing drawings, maps and tracings in accordance with sketches or corrected prints prepared by others. Assist in recording on standard maps and records complex additions and retirements of overhead electric transmission facilities. Analyze completion reports and reconcile with information added to or removed from the maps and records relating to the above described facilities. Assist in ordering and distributing to various departments, prints prepared from standard maps. Assist in the taking of field measurements and physical inventories of electric production, transmission and distribution plant.
Qualifications Job Qualifications: · Pursuing an AAS Degreein Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering Technology. 3.0 Cumulative GPA for Undergraduate Students Applicant must have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years old Authorized to work in the United States for the entire duration of the internship Registered in school as a full-time student · Ability to use computerbased drafting applications in a skillful manner (Micro Station is preferred).
