Description: Description About the Position:
The Domain Architect (DA) will act as the Chief Enterprise Architect for the functional towers and provide technical expertise to IT and business teams to help identify technology solutions and strategies. The DA solves complex technology problems in collaboration with Solution Architects. The DA will lead a team of Solution architects work closely with functional experts, and the Vice Presidents of End-to-End processes as well as with project delivery teams The DA ensures appropriate implementation and compliance of technology for their domain. The Domain Architect (DA) is responsible for establishing current and long-range direction of technology aimed at keeping the organization on the forefront of change. The DA maintains a technology roadmap that enables business outcomes and is able to reliably forecast business needs in the 3-5 year horizon. The DA provides comprehensive consultation to business units and IT management and staff while operating with minimal supervision. As a core member of the architecture team and a technical thought leader within the organization, the domain architect provides leadership, direction and guidance to Information Services (IS) practitioners within their domain of expertise. They analyze and assess business strategies, technology trends and organizational capabilities, and ensure current and future state solutions align with the enterprise architecture. The DA leads SAs and provides direction and guidance on technical products and solution architecture to the SAs.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Understand business context, key processes, and emerging technologies that will transform the utilities industry and the organization Design and develop enterprise-wide architecture and strategy for assigned architectural domain in alignment with the business strategy Consult on application portfolio health and develop domain strategy in support of the corporate-wide strategic information technology plan Discuss, define, and monitor key requirements with business units within domain Define solution architecture for key projects within their domain of expertise, focusing largely on aligning solution architecture with business strategies and enterprise architecture Establish new capabilities that enable the business to achieve optimal outcomes in the most efficient and effective manner possible Support application development and support teams by effectively defining solution architectures, and ensuring architecture risks are appropriately mitigated prior to production deployment Leverage critical thinking, analysis, communication and influence skills to develop and ensure solution architectures are in alignment with business strategies and enterprise architecture Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with business and IT partners. Communicate status to key stakeholders on a regular basis Maintain awareness of trends and issues in area of technical expertise, evaluate new technologies or opportunities, and provide analysis of their potential impact to business Participate in developing and maintaining road maps describing the evolution of all enterprise solution portfolios from current state to future state Participate in envisioning, guiding, and reviewing architectural change Cultivate a group of solution architects within the IT domain, providing guidance over technology architecture best practices Lead and facilitate architecture governance and review processes
Job Dimensions: Responsible for technical innovations and solutions for complex application development requests Provide technological expertise and advice to IT leadership in the development of strategic information technology plans to support business strategies Interface with Solution Architects, Project Managers and IS Leads Report to the functional tower lead Collaborate with other Domain and Solution architects to implement efficient, cost-effective, high performing solutions M
Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Experience Demonstrated experience with developing solution architecture and conceptual and logical system design for large scale programs and project Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of IT, vendor and business management Minimum 8 to 10 years’ experience in diverse IT domains, with a focus around electric utility functions, customer, grid and real time domains Ability to function at both the detail and conceptual levels Demonstrated leadership ability Knowledge & Technical Know-how: Strong technical skills around vendor product selection, software and technology analysis, business analytics, service oriented architecture and convergence of cross utility functions Strong experience developing technical standards Strong analytical, planning/organization, communication and interpersonal skills Software, system or technology engineering experience at highest level of proficiency Experience with CRM (SalesForce, Seibel), Contact Center (Agent Desktop, IVR), Experience with CNI (Critical Network Infrastructure), Gas and Electric Enablement, Network Strategy Experience with New Energy Solutions (Battery, Solar, Sensor, Intercommunications, AMI, IoT, SmartGrid, OpTel) Experience solutioning for Field Operations, GPS Experience solutioning for Business Intelligence, Data Management, Visualization, Experience solutioning for Mobility (Application Programming – xCode, Ajax, J2ME, Java), Web (Content Management, PHP, Perl, MySQL, HTML5), Collaboration (SharePoint, Box) Prior experience developing application architecture processes, techniques, architecture strategy, and policies from beginning through delivery Enterprise Architecture or Technology Management Certification In-depth knowledge of business unit functions and applications, business intelligence and data analytics in a regulated environment Comprehensive understanding of change management techniques associated with new technology implementation Experience producing an economic business cases, case for change literature Proficient with Visio, MS Project, Word, Excel & PowerPoint Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (required) Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (preferred)
