Description: Description About the Position: Through collaboration across functions, exceed customer and community expectations by implementing a comprehensive process performance framework which ensures accountability for all functions that contribute to the end to end process. Accountable for accurately measuring the performance of the end-to-end process through the use of proven performance measurement methodologies and tools, focused on ensuring that each step in the process delivers on the agreed upon time, cost, and quality thresholds in order to meet overall performance objectives and targets. Ensure functional near term and long term business plans (budgets, resource allocations, objectives, investments, regulatory requirements) align with end to end process performance measurements and improvement initiatives.
Position can be based in any National Grid location.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Developing and analyzing a comprehensive set of leading and lagging cross functional key performance indicators (KPI) in support of strategic / operational end to end (E2E) process performance. Working with functional process working group members to formalize and automate the KPI tracking process. Driving KPI and metric cascade from cross functional E2E process level -> functional leadership hubs -> front line functional hubs. Facilitating and driving cross functional process working group sessions to identify process improvement opportunities. Supporting functional business plan development to meet E2E process performance objectives / targets. Identifying the root causes for performance failures and ensure that that effective corrective actions are in place, escalate to Process Improvement Leads where necessary. Facilitating and / or supporting the process performance sections of the monthly process review meetings. Providing daily direction and provide escalation support to Process Performance Analysts. Ensuring Process Performance Analysts are well versed and consistently utilizing the PEx performance management tools and methodologies. Leading the development of KPIs while monitoring and analyzing performance data to ensure measurements are implemented at all the appropriate steps in the E2E process, the responsible functions are being held accountable for performance, and that change projects are delivering against expectations. Collaborating with the other E2E process teams and the central capability team to implement and embed the National Grid Performance Framework into the business, support the development of National Grid performance methodology and tools, and best practices. Leading operational and organizational change for improved process performance, as well as inspiring and engaging others in new ways of matrix working, innovation and performance to enhance value and commitment. Fostering a culture of innovation in the end to end process, challenging and advising the functions that support rate of return and the wider business to understand the impact of existing policies, processes and ways of working in order to drive greater innovation and value. Managing communication with stakeholders directly and indirectly impacted by E2E process performance targets.
Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: A Bachelor’s degree preferably in an engineering/analytical discipline Significant experience with performance improvement discipline (data collection, measurement, KPI definition and alignment with corporate strategy / objectives) 3-5 years management experience including significant interactions at the director level or equivalent Ability to successfully align both human and process performance KPIs with a direct line of sight from the front line to the organizational objective. Influential, energetic and enthusiastic process improvement leader, with the drive, ambition and resilience to make things happen and deliver outstanding performance Proven experience at influencing senior executives of the organization Ability to successfully bring together and drive cooperation across diverse teams with potentially conflicting goals and objectives Understanding of finance, importance of controls, and the ability to use financial analyses to make complex decisions. Working knowledge of the core functions within National Grid, the skills required to execute that work and an understanding of the nuances / interdependencies that exist with the work. Knowledge of the Utility industry and the ability to use this knowledge to make critical decisions and maximize performance. Capability Requirements: Process and Performance Excellence Principles: Ability to advocate and actively contribute to a process driven culture by setting a clear vision, exhibiting example behaviors, identify improvement opportunities, enabling people, providing honest feedback, holding people accountable, challenge the status quo, and maintaining a non-functional biased end to end process focus. Align Contributing Functions to E2E Process: Ability to align cross functional business plans (budgets, resource allocations, objectives, regulatory requirements) with E2E process performance measurements and initiatives. Process Performance Methodology: Ability to accurately evaluate performance based on new and existing metrics and analytics. Provide recommendations or action plans for improvement and continue to build upon and utilize the foundational performance excellence hub structure. Facilitation: Ability to lead a discussion by asking questions, mediating between opposing viewpoints, encouraging participation, and ensuring that all participants' views are heard. Technical Aptitude for Data Analysis: Ability to collect, normalize, and analyze data in order to determine correlations, trends, and predictions, and then leverage within an improvement strategy. Analytical Thinking: Ability to leverage and analyze data to identify critical information, develop hypothesis and make actionable recommendations for improving and continuing to build upon and utilize the foundational performance excellence hub structure. Decision Making: Ability to apply sound analysis and logic to reach practical, data driven solutions and decisions in a timely manner. Negotiation: Ability to effectively communicate with others in order to arrive at a mutually agreeable settlement or compromise. Relationship Management: The ability to build and use robust internal and external relationships developed through trust and collaboration. Credibility and Communication: Sophisticated influencing skills and ability to interact effectively with people from different levels, perspectives and backgrounds. Individual is able to develop & partner with the business to implement aligned performance improvement strategies that drive relevant & tangible impacts. Individual must demonstrate ability to embed performance management approach within business function(s) and create a pull for improvement support through effective collaboration, influence and partnership with a wide array of cross functional stakeholders. Individual serves as a change agent in proactively managing and controlling holistic change impacts through coordination of all major improvement activities & delivering systematic communications. Individual drives a balanced approach in leading a strategic planning process which consider short and long term business needs. Through establishing a performance management framework, individual effectively works to understand & report process performance, understand reasons for performance misses and feed into Process Improvement Lead for prioritization. E2E process performance leads will drive the day to day work under the process owners across multiple dimensions Performing as an E2E process performance lead will require significant stakeholder management within Bands B - D, including negotiation and influence, with multiple functions across National Grid. E2E process performance leads will be expected to analyze functional budget impacts and identify process level improvement opportunities while minimizing net process budget impacts.
