Description: Description About the Position: This leadership role is to support the Academy Director in formulating the strategy to drive corporate learning direction, goals and policies. Lead all aspects of the Academy Gas organization throughout the entire US footprint. Establish and implement overall U.S. learning strategy and strategic initiatives to ensure the proper training and competence of both the internal Gas Organizations and external Gas Contractor workforce. Act as a strategic partner with all Gas Lines of Business clients to ensure that the Academy strategy is aligned to their operational priorities. To disseminate knowledge and information to the learner through technology, social media and instructors. Support the Academy Director in developing and monitoring Academy budgets and ensure all clients receive the maximum operational benefits from their investment in learning. Establish challenging departmental goals and objectives, approve and monitor expenditures, enforce safe operations, foster cooperative working relationships with the client organizations, and ensure the development and delivery of effective, efficient, high quality training programs, courseware, and overall learning experience. Utilize key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of the organization. Lead the Academy organization in a process of continuous improvement and best practice implementation to bring high quality learning experiences to audiences through a blended learning approach. The Director for Gas is also responsible to develop an organizational culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and high performance. Support the Academy Director and HR Leadership Team in establishing an organization that fully supports the Academy clients’ strategic objectives. To develop National Grid’s Education Process including: Instructional Design, Mobile Learning, Micro Learning, and Social Learning & Blended Learning. To oversee and institute latest technologies, effective training strategies, direct large scale change management and promote importance of learning and ROI with shareholders.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Financial Management : Establish and actively monitor the operating and capital budget for the Academy Gas organization to ensure that the maximum value is provided to all clients for each learning dollar invested. Oversee the budgetary process and manage the considerable resource requirements. Performance and Financial Metrics Management : Monitor and analyze performance and financial metrics and utilize that data to make operational decisions required to ensure the overall success and effectiveness of the Gas Academy organization. Optimize cost, operational performance, risk, and safety performance. Strategic Planning : Establish strategic direction and objectives for the Gas Academy organization. Identify and define the specific roles and responsibilities under the Gas Contractor Training section to ensure proper coverage and oversight in validating gas contractor workforce competence. Develop strong relationships and partner with clients to proactively forecast and prioritize their learning needs. Ensure the development of an Annual Learning Plan and actively manage the on-time, on-budget design, development, and delivery of learning solutions. Direct the Annual Learning Plan process and ensure that all of the needs of the clients are met. Provide enterprise-wide leadership in support of learning & development issues, strategies, and trends within the industry. Creating Value for Clients : Ensure that the Gas Academy organization is intimately familiar with the details of their clients and proactively recommends and implements innovative solutions to improve their performance. Lead the Gas Academy organization to successfully meet/exceed all targets established in the Service Level Agreements with clients. Provide ongoing support throughout the life cycle of all learning solutions. Act as a strategic partner with key stakeholders throughout the Lines of Business for all of their learning needs Leading and Promoting Change : Coordinate the continuous improvement process in every area of the Learning Organization. Establish a departmental culture that is focused on continuous improvement. Continuously perform research and benchmarking on learning and identify and implement best practices to ensure the creation and development of a High Performance Learning Organization. Provide strategic oversight for all special projects related to continuous improvement of the Academy organization. Promote the use of new technologies and implementation of optimal delivery methods. Drive consistency across the in developing, prioritizing, and delivering training programs and courseware Operational Responsibilities : Direct all resources and operations associated with U.S. Gas Learning & Development. Plan, direct, and implement the Optimal Sourcing Staffing Strategy to ensure the appropriate sourcing, hiring, development and retention of highly motivated and skilled employees in both the Gas Training and Gas Contractor training Sections. Oversee the administration of all plans, schedules, and programs to meet all technical and operational learning needs. Direct the execution of the Gas Enablement Program for both management and union. Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, procedures, and work standards for the department. Strategy and Performance Management : Proactively identify opportunities for learning to enhance the business. Identify additional learning investments to support overall client business strategy and determine associated costs and develop business cases. Analyze the cost to achieve for all learning investments to maximum return on investment (ROI). Direct the overall staffing strategy of the Gas Academy organization including the review and feasibility analysis of utilizing vendors. Sponsor Instructor Development Program and ensure accurate execution of program in order to continuously improve the staff. Content Development and Delivery : Ensure the effective and cost efficient design and development of all learning content. Promote the use of new technology. Lead the organization to investigate and evaluate all learning technology and best practices and ensure that the optimal delivery method is utilized. Establish a training delivery methodology that utilized the most effective and efficient levels. Expand focus from compliance training and continuously identify needs for developmental learning. Ensure that the Gas Academy responds to all learning requests with quality learning programs. Evaluation : Sponsor a formal feedback loop between operational performance and the Learning process to ensure continuous improvement. Manage and review established metrics that have been aligned to learning objectives. Monitor metrics and implement actions to address issues and/or gaps. Communication: Responsible to develop strong communication channels with the Academy Director and between the Academy and its clients. Establish and maintain working networks internal and external to the organization in order to identify best practices and recognize the benefits to the learning organization as well as the overall company. Governance: Establish strategic oversight over the entire Academy Gas organization and all U.S. Gas Learning Governance Committees (e.g. Learning Councils, Learning Advisory Boards). Process to ensure alignment to client priorities. Support: Ensure that the proper support for the learning environment is in place, including the oversight of facilities, equipment, instructors, and students. Risk Mitigation: Ensure that the company minimizes its risk management exposure by handling properly learning records administration including monitoring course completions, attendance, assessments, and qualifications. Oversee the Learning & Development forecasting and compliance monitoring process to ensure that employees receive all regulatory and mandated training. Build Partnership Relationships : Will build and maintain critical external relationships with new and existing organizations, colleges, associations, professional societies for strategic partners. Strong organizational leader: Must effectively manage, lead, and develop relationships within the Academy, HR and all lines of business. Serves as the leader supporting all learning and development across all aspects of people management and processes. Partners with executive leaders to ensure capability of trained workforce across the enterprise. Responsible to lead the planning, execution and evaluation of the delivery of all content across the geographical area. Responsible for ensuring the workforce has a dedicated and functional systems platform to engage and develop the talent across all roles. Business leader : Create a vision to sustain and continue the growth of the Academy, National Grid’s workforce, contractor workforce and future pipeline programs. Establish organizational partnerships and opportunities, and work with internal and external stakeholders while achieving aggressive targets including financial. Influence and lead learning and development initiatives across the enterprise, focusing heavily on a consistent and superior learning experience. .
